Fast Forward for DIVX in MCE

As you may know the fast forward of a DIVX movie in MCE has two behaviors. If you press, wait,press,wait,... the button it will jump a few seconds each tap. If you press and hold it will jump to the end of the movie. Then I get to enjoy a long flat stare while I tap, tap, tap to get back to where the movie was.

There are solutions like ffdshow but they do not work with MCE 2005. If I set up macros to send the code, delay .1 seconds, send the code, delay,... I can program larger jumps. Of course that seems lame.

I hunted around and tried a number of approaches and nothing works. Is there a trick or a fearture I missed that I can use to set up a button to repeat a marco while I am holding the button? is there a slick trick I just haven't thought of?

I don't think there is a way to repeat a macro while holding a button, but I think all you need to do is repeat a signal more slowly while holding a button. That should be possibile.

The way I might do that is get the signal in Pronto Hex, then edit the Pronto Hex to represent a slower repeat, then import the Pronto Hex with Universal Browser.

What form do you have the signal in? If you have Pronto Hex or know a CCF file for the same code set of MCE, that would makle it easier. But if you don't have a way to get Pronto Hex, if you have a file or instructions to make an MX-850 generate the signal, I can give you the edited Pronto Hex.

I assume you're talking about the "skip" and "replay" buttons here, since normal FF/RW does nothing with most (all?) AVI files under MCE. Yeah, it's annoying behavior, especially the "hold it too long and it skips to the end of the file" problem.

I assume Frank's remote isn't a Pronto, so it couldn't use MCE signals in that condensed form.

I don't know whether "MCE 2005" indicates a single code set (the Microsoft one) or whether the OEM code in the signal may vary by vendor. But I'll assume Daniel knows that better than I do. Since he quoted the signals with the Microsoft OEM code, I'll assume that is correct and construct signals based on that (Device=4.15 in MakeHex).

Try the signals listed below. Do they work as skip and replay? Do they avoid the problem when holding them too long?

I don't know the timing rules for MCE for distinguishing multiple short presses from one long press, so I'm just guessing at the timing. Significant experimentation might be required to get this right. I also don't know the specific limits on signal size or timing enforced by each model of Pronto (much less whatever remote Frank is using), so these initial versions might already be outside the range your Remote can send.

The major control on the timing in these strings is the last value (1C00 in these). Try changing that to improve the performance. If you make that too small, the repeat will be fast and the device will interpret it as one continuous press. If you make it too big, the repeat may be too slow (for convenient use) or the Remote may decide the signal is too slow to send as specified (or Universal browser will import it incorrectly).

The first version below uses just timing to break up the signal into what should appear to be multiple short presses.

The second uses the MCE toggle bit. That should more reliably break the signal up and should never look like one long press. But it probably will always be interpreted as an even number of presses, which might be inconvenient (you can't do just one step).

Sorry I should have said I am using a MX 3000. Yes I am taking about skip and replay.

What is the file format to import these codes into the Universal browser. I tired just text and it didn't like that. All the rcc files I have seen are binary files. Do I need a tool to 'compile' the codes.

Since you ask that, I assume you don't have the version of Universal Browser that lets you paste in Pronto Hex directly and you don't know how to use any of the programs for creating CCF files.

I emailed a CCF file to you with those four signals, because that was easier than explaining how to create one. Other threads in this forum tell you how to create a CCF file with ProntoEdit or IrPanels or Hex2CCF or various other programs.

Thanks for the code but they do not seem to work. Is there somewhere I can read up on the process you are recommending. If I could understand the steps I can experiment with it.

I currently use the MX-3000 Editor that came with the device to program it. I do not have access to the URC installers pages.

In fact everything I have learned has been trial and error or from this website.
