I am very happy with my MX-900 and am thinking about buying another one, BUT:

Is there any news yet on the software front? Are variables still on the board or is it scrapped? I like to know before I buy more hardware.

Still No Varaiables on the 900. It's been whispered that the 900 might be able to support a few variables, but nothing has been done to support it.
With the new r70 units coming out, I doubt we will see variables implemented on the 900. You could always use a 700 base station if you had to have variables in the future.
It would be a much more flexible and accomidating upgrade path than hoping for new features on the 900.

Pretty much anything you can think of, but mainly track states of TOAD devices.

TOAD = toggle only actuated device, i.e. a device which has no discrete commands for a certain function such as power. A TOAD will have the same command for power on and power off, a discrete will be different commands for power on and off. This can relate to any number of commands but in our world is most important for power states, inputs, aspects, presets, etc.

No it's not like a macro.

Variable is like an if/then/else statement....i.e. IF condition THEN statement can be IF power state is high THEN switch to input 1 ELSE turn power state high.

edit: forgot my else

Arrrgh,
Daniel is correct, I meant the MSC-400. Guess I just had a bit of brain lockup.

Does anyone know of or has anyone created a tutorial for variables on the MX3000? I can always use more education.

Try downloading some files in the file area, might help you understand them better. Also, there are some example if you search the threads.
