This is what I would like to do.
When a client presses WATCH it jumps to a page showing all the devices to watch. If the client quickly selects one of the devices it turns the devices on and jumps to the selected device normally.
If however, on the devices to watch page, the client takes over 10 seconds to choose a device, I want to play a sound file, "Please make up your mind". Is there a way to do this? I called URC technical and they couldn't figure out how to have a delay without the remote being "locked up" during the delay but said there might be a way to do it and "Some sharp programmer might be able to figure it out".

I think the sound file would be tough but to display a message after 10 seconds could be done with a gif as the backround image. It would end up cycling between the two background screens but it could be done. I have used some long wav files before but I'm pretty sure it is locked while they are playing, you'll have to try it. If it doesn't you can make a long wav file with 10 seconds of silence before the message.

I have already tried inserting a .wav recording of 10 seconds of silence before the sound file "please make up your mind". The problem is that you also have to put in a 10 second delay and that locks up the remote. The client CANNOT make a choice until the 10 second delay expires and the sound file "please make up your mind" begins to play.
Maybe I'm missing something or maybe I'm asking the impossible.

I would go with "the impossible". Or atleast "the probably not worth the effort"

Since this remote has to be "done" with what ever it is was doing, i.e. playing a macro, etc... , before it re-enters the "waiting for a key-press" mode I can't imagine that it's possible. This task requires some time based process to be running in the back ground which is just not possible.

Thank you for your responses. I was hoping that it might be possible using dynamic buttons or variables (both of which I don't fully understand and haven't explored). I was not sure if you could have a macro running in the background on a dynamic button or something like that.

I wanted to do this to give the client a chuckle, so he would want to show it to all his friends. I could not figure out how to do it but I certainly am no expert at programming the MX-3000. That's why I posted it. I know there are a lot of experts here that are much smarter than I. I was hoping someone might find a way to do it.

That sounds like more effort to create something which may only end up annoying the end user over time. Like the flying toaster screen savers or dancing baby animations on the internet...they got old fast.

What you may want to do is simply put text on the page that says "Please make a selection" on he background image. It will save you time and be far less annoying to the user. Trust me, the novelty will wear off. Plus, if the users sees the text, they will know that a selection did not register if they missed the button.

Something to think about.

Kind of like when I set up remotes to BRing up the lights in the theater after pressing system off.

Middle of the night... customer is ready to go to sleep. They press system off and the lights come on. Presumably to guide them out of the theater. OOOPPPS Now I just told there brains its time to wake up!

Took that out about 2 years ago.

During a .wav file, the MX-3000 buttons are available. So you could edit your file to included 10sec of silence or background music before speech.

I would show the client how to adjust the sound, date, time etc. on the MX-3000, so in the future they could turn the sound off.

Editing the sound file to include 10 seconds of silence is a great idea and causes the remote to do exactly what I want it to do because there is no need for a delay timer that locks up the remote. Since the sound file is never played unless the client stays on the watch or listen page for longer than 10 seconds without pressing any buttons, it is seldom if ever heard by them and does not lead to agrivation. But, it is something they can show to friends by having them press Watch or Listen and just wait.
Your suggestion is a simple solution that is 100% effective. I wouldn't have thought of it myself.

I would personally sell (or rent) the client a midget that occasionally screams "WTF are you doing!?! Pick a $*#! option!". But that's probably just me.
