Hi Dave,
I think Jeff should reword his sentiment. I wouldn't describe it that way.
The issue for us and for anyone else who manufactures a device using the CE operating system is that WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) replaces Activesync to enable serial communication between the PC and the CE device. The way that WMDC handles USB drivers is different than Activesync. Microsoft is working as hard as they can to support as many CE devices as possible, but they focussed first on those devices that are new right now, utilizing CE5.0. Word on the "street" is that Microsoft plans to release SR-1 of WMDC soon and that this will bring compatibility to CE 4.5. Our engineers believe that will be the final key. One of the posters at this forum supplied the other key (the fact that Live Update to C:Program Files is not allowed, but that if Live Update is pointed to another directory, it will work fine).
Microsoft is a large company, we understand that they cannot prioritize us above other much more influential partners, just as we cannot move heaven and earth for our smallest customers.
We are trying to be as patient as we can, but Jeff's temper slipped a little, that's all.
Best Regards,
-Eric
