The person who would know is Eric Johnson (see the sticky thread above). I've forwarded this thread to him.

We all should know that:

we will see new products from URC that work with Vista before we will see the current software adapted

its the best way to make everything obsolete and therefore require new purchases.

this is the way of life in the electronics business!

Won't work, you need ActiveSync, which is not on Vista.

Just set your system up dual boot if you require Vista. When you want to program remotes, boot into XP. It isn't pretty living on the bleeding edge of technology. At work we're not buying any PC's with Vista yet, too many issues still at this point.

URC is being quiet about when they will support Vista, I read this as meaning that support is a long way off, and they don't want to deal with unhappy users. My guess is that telling someone that a release is a year out will get them lots of bad press, where surprising us all a year from now with a new release will make many happy.

I tried Vista on one computer at work and ended up formatting the drive and loading XP Pro; too many issues. Maybe I'll try again in a year or two.

Now, now...

we're not the only ones affected on this one. We are working on it, but progress is slow. We will make an announcement as soon as we can make it work 100% of the time.

So who's comments did you, "Now, now..."

we're not the only ones who got stabbed in the back by
Microsoft on this one. We are working on it, but progress

No date, no timeframe, no real info. How does this make any of us feel better?

I don't see what the problem is it works for me. I just tried it out again to be sure (don't change my setup much).

editor version 1.10.102
firmware 1.43
IR database 1.80

Windows Vista Premium, Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop.

Did you upgrade to Vista or is it a new computer?

Based on the firmware version, it sounds like you're talking about an MX-900. That's not a problem. It's just with the remotes that use ActiveSync, the MX-950 and 3000.

Surf,

Your reply was the most significant posting I've seen in a long time. I received my new Vista computer last Friday and from the info I gleaned here assumed I'd have to manage my MX-900 for a considerable period on my old XP beast.

OOPS, my bad. I didn't know there was a difference, so the Vista sync center doesn't work on those 2. What is the difference???? Why would it work on the 900 and not the other 2?? I had problems at first getting the updates to work but worked around it. There are alot of hidden tools in Vista. Sorry if I got your hope up, I'll read a little more carefully next time.

Hi Jeff,

I would like to ask you to clarify your comments about being "stabbed-in-the-back" by Microsoft. I assume URC is a "Microsoft Partner" and you probably were notified about 8 months ago that they were going in a different direction with Vista, requiring your input and changes?

I had been a computer industry guy before moving into the remote arena and Microsoft was always pretty straight-forward about changes coming in the next versions of their OS. In most cases, vendors knew about changes many months in advance and were given MS development kits to aid them in design, which would work with next versions.

Did they fail to notify URC about the pending changes?
Did URC do everything it could do to get on board with the Microsft proposed changes?

I find it difficult to understand how Microsft Partners could possibly be caught off guard with pending changes.

From my perspective, it appears that almost all of the remote manufacturers either didn't follow-up with Microsoft design intentions or they were all caught off guard by last-minute chaanges. Which one is it?

So Far, RTI, URC, Philips (Pronto) have all missed the changes for Vista. How is this possible?

Thx Dave
