I own a Universal Remote MX-850 that I've been very happy with and that serves me well. I have programmed and reprogrammed it on many occasions, virtually learning every code from my various remotes and programming macros in some cases.

I would like to swap two of my buttons on the main page. In other words, I'd like my CABLE device and all of its contents moved to where the DVD device is and vice versa. For the life of me, I haven't figured out exactly how to do this. I presume it has something to do with exporting and importing.

I've successfully exported the Cable and DVD devices and deleted them from my Main page. But every time I try and import, I can't quite figure out how. And, frankly, I'm not even sure if exporting and importing is how I should be accomplishing this in the first place.

Any help from an MX-850 pro would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

If your trying to move the LCD 'buttons', go to the LCD editor's 'main page' and 'drag' the buttons to the desired location. All programing for the device will flollow the button.

You may have to 'drag' one of the devices to an unused location temporarally if you're swapping locations between 2 devices.

Sorry, I guess I'm being really dense. I'm at the main screen with the picture of the remote in the middle. I'm trying to drag one button and drop it onto another button but that doesn't accomplish anything. Should it? I can drag the button and the little popup window drags with my mouse but I can't seem to drop it anywhere...I've tried dropping it onto another empty button, on a blank area of the LCD screen opposite a button, but none of that works. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong.

Also, my problem may be even more complicated in that all ten of my buttons on the main screen are occupied so I can't see how to drop a button onto a temporary location (assuming I could drop it anywhere!).

Sorry guys. I'm still in need of assistance.

Signed,

Feeling Stupid!

Also, for what it's worth, I tried the exporting and importing method but that doesn't seem to work either:

First, I exported the two devices I wanted to swap.
Then I delete them from the main screen which leaves two blank spots.
Next, I right-click the tree view and click Import Device.
I select one of the device files I previously exported.
Then I'm presented with the Import Device window.
I select the available device on the left side and a blank spot on main page 1.
I click the arrow pointing to the right.

But then I'm presented with a Device Assign window which I don't know what to do with. It presents a list entitled Used External Devices and lists five of my ten devices (well, 5 of 8 since I deleted two of them in an earlier step). There's also an Assign Device To dropdown box but I'm not sure what to do with this. In fact, nothing I do in this window enables the OK button so I click Cancel and find that the Save button on the previous is now enabled. I click Save but nothing changes on the main screen. The device doesn't import and my remote still shows two blank spots.

At the top of the MX editor, on the 2nd line down, the 8th icon over (just below and right of "Help") you will find the "LCD Button Editor" click on this and you can use drag from there to make the changes you wish to easily swap buttons.

OH, NOW I GOT IT! Thank you so much for the clear explanation!!

Just for future reference, any idea why I am having trouble importing? I can imagine I'd want to take advantage of that functionality somewhere down the road.

Thanks again!!

Wow, good to see Rich is out of the batcave.
What kind of file are you trying to import? You can only import .CCF and some other URC files. Try using the Universal Browser to get commands.

I was talking about importing files that I previously exported using the same MX-850 software.

Go to the tree view, find a device, right click, and click import.

But as I mentioned earlier, I tried that:

I select one of the device files I previously exported.

It means you had punchthroughs to other devices or macros using other devices with that device. You need to assign the devices to other devices so that it can use these features. If you don't care about the macros or punchthroughs and just want the codes, select random devices and then you can delete the buttons after it's imported.
