I just picked up 5 MX-950s from the local authorized URC dealer. I asked him to include a copy of his "dealer" software which he did.

When I later checked the software in the boxes I found that each one was of the "live update" flavor.

Has there been a change in policy at URC?

No. The live updatable software in boxes are most likely an older live updatable version that WILL NOT UPDATE.
You will need to install the dealers version instead, that was written AFTER Sept of 2006, for it to update.
Best bet is to throw away the CDS that are in the boxes, else you will have problems if you try to install the included CD software.
Also you may need to make sure you have the latest active sync software too.
For that you may need to go to Microsoft's site.
My active sync version is at 4.2

There are endless discussions about this in the other URC forum. All discussions on that manner should be kept exclusively to those threads.

In short, you will need the dealer software installed to update your software.
