Hello all, I'm new to the forum. I read here sometime last year that something was in the works to add variables to the TX-1000/MX-900 remotes. I am about to purchase the TX-1000 and was wondering if this feature has been implemented yet, and if not would anyone know when?

I was originally looking at the RM-AX4000 since it had the ability to know the status of your components. But after stumbling across the TX-1000 here and then reading more about it elsewhere I am inclined to go for the TX-1000 instead. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Variables are still not available in the TX1000. I'll post an announcement if they become available.

Hi Jeff,

Maybe I'm reading too much into your response, but are variables possibly not coming the to TX-100 & MX-900 remotes?

From previous posts, I always assumed it was a matter of time before variables came to these remotes (even if that took a long long time). Although now it seems to be a question of "if they become available" rather than "when".

I'm assuming that as long as I purchase from an authorized dealer, I'll have access to the software updates that will enable this on the TX-1000, or would it be wise to delay my purchase until this is confirmed?

According to Eric Johnson, VP of Technology Universal Remote Control, Inc:

Post 11 made on Friday June 30, 2006 at 13:54
"Eventually, Device+/- AND variables will be added to the MX-900 and the TX-1000."

"Now, since I've let the cat out of the bag on variables etc., let me just say, please be patient. We have a limited amount of resources and these features take time to test before release. The use of variables in particular requires a substantial revision to the software, which will take a few months. However, it IS coming."

Eric seemed fairly confident that URC would roll this out, I hope this has not changed.

Thanks Again

Thanks! That is the post I was referring to in my previous post.

I am HOPING Jeff just meant to say "when" instead of "if". A major factor in my decision to purchase the MX-900 over other remotes, was the belief that it would get variables in the (hopefully near) future. Eric's post was made almost 10 months ago so I assumed variables would be coming fairly soon. Now I'm just confused.

Yes, if you buy through an AD, you can get the full SW. However, contact the dealer first to make sure they give it to you. I know www.proremotes.com and www.surfremote.com both give out the updatable SW and have very competitive pricing (if you ask).

I think we were also told about variables for the MX-900...

I'm still thinking that it should appear, but I don't have a clue as to when.

I wonder if we could get someone from URC to give us an update? It would be nice if we had some idea when/if variables will be coming or not. With the new remotes coming out down the road my hopes for variables in the current 900/1000 is slipping away.

My guess, and it is a complete guess, is that after the new remotes are out, they will revisit the 900/1000 and put in the variables that they "promised".

The MX-900 is the "go to" remote for a LOT of custom installers and I think that a LOT of custom installers would welcome even a minimal variable feature in the 900.

Crossing fingers.
