Hello,

Just started to prgram the MX-900. Loaded the STB and TV devices and created a macro what I labeled Watch STD TV.
Everything seems to work fine except that CH+ and CH- buttons change the video input. May have done something incorrectly, but not sure what.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

I assume channel changing is done on your STB, not the TV, correct?
When you cursor over the channel buttons and the small info windows pops-up, do you see the "CH+" and "CH-" labels along with the STB device name?
Also, make sure you haven't assigned a punch-through on those keys or inadvertantly assigned a macro to them.

If not, you could always pull up the "Tools->IR Database Navigator", find your STB and see what predefined IR codes are there and drag and drop them on the Channel Buttons again.

The SA3250HD codeset in the editor has the correct channel buttons. As Grimdeath mentioned, make sure they are not shortcutted or punched through to any other button.

Grimdeath, thanks for your response.
Yes, the STB should control the channel changing, and the TV should control volume and mute.
Before I go to your second question, I should let you know my current set-up.
Under WATCH page 2, I listed the STB and TV devices and on page 1 my configuration named STD TV. This means watching TV through the STB.
In respect to your second question, I see the CH+/CH-/STB pop-up window when on page 1 of the STB device, and on page 1 of the TV device I see the same but with the TV in the pop-up window.
Re: punchthrough, I checked, but didn't see any.
In reading the MX-900 manual, unfortunately not clearly written for folks like me, about "punchthrough", something tells me that I may have to program a punchthrough of some sort. But not quite sure how this works or if this is what should be done.
One other thing. The macro for watching STD TV ends with STB-pg1.

Thank you for assistance and look forward to your response.

OTAHD, thanks for your response. Please note my reply to Grimdeath.
Any words of wisdom are certainly welcome.

Your punch-throughs should be as follows:

Punch to STB from Volume,Mute = TV if you are using the TV speakers for volume, mute.

Punch to STB from Channel = none, since the STB device already contains the channel commands.

Tweeterguy.....Thanks for the advice. Set-up works like a charm.
Just doing some tweeking with Delays in the Macro.
In the meantime I've also set up my next configuration, which I labeled HT-TV. In this scenario the AVR is the Audio source instead of the TV. I presume that I will have to punch-through for this one as well. Would this be: Punch to STB from Volume, Mute = AVR? If I do this, wouldn't this override or replace the punch-through that already exists on STB for the TV volume & mute? Can one have multiple punch-throughs on the same buttons? Somewhat of ignorent question, but don't know the answer.

Thanks for your patience.

No you cannot have multiple punch throughs per device per function, i.e. only one punch from device for volume, mute per device. Create two devices, one for each listening mode (TV spkrs and surround) and then punch from TV and AVR for volume, mute as required.

Thanks Tweeterguy,

I think I understand. I created a STB-2 device as you suggested and did the volume & mute punch-through for the AVR. Have not had a chance to test, but if I did it correctly it should work. I will let you know.
I really appreciate all of your input and hope you don't mind if I come back to you with more questions. From what I can see so far I know there will be more, particularly when it comes to setting up the switching from one configuration to another.

Thanks

Hello Tweeterguy,

Finally got around to testing the HT-HDTV (cable, tv, avr) set up. With the punch-through you suggested, it works. Since audio is via the AVR, I added a step in the macro as follows: TV Volume(-) plus 30 repeats to turn down the volume and that works.
My next issue is, how to switch from one configuration that's powered up to another. Let's say going from HT-HDTV to STD-TV.
Could you give some guidence and guidelines for doing this?
I also have written out the macros in a Word doc. I would like to e-mail, with your permission of course, a copy for your review and suggestions.

Thanks

That's fine.

How is the cable box connected to the tv and avr? The vol- x 30 repeats is quite cumbersome from a programming standpoint. Send me your mx file as well.
