Hi,
I have a MX-500. I like it so much I bought one for my parents. My dad has a Samsung HL-S5687W TV. The problem is when I am trying to program macros into the remote, I realized that he need to scroll through the inputs to bring up the correct one. These defeats the purpose of why I got him the remote. (My TV has a number associated to the input so it was not an issue for me). IF it matters, He has a SA 8300HD cable box, a Denon Reciever, the TV, and a Panasonic DVD player. So my question is, what is the best way for me to get these discrete codes, or advanced codes (I dont understand the difference between the two) into this remote. I would be willing to buy a $20 remote if that fixed the problem. I read that people have fixed this problem, I just need someone to explain to me what I need to do. Thanks for the help everyone!!

If the TV defaults to the same input always when bringing it up on screen you could always just use a macro to jump up or down to the correct input if it defaults to the present input then you have a problem.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately the only way I know how to cycle through the inputs is to hit the source button on the remote. That brings up the next input in line so that would not work. Since When I am on DVD I need to hit source twice to get to the cable box and when I am on the TV Over the air HDTV source, then I need to hit source once to get to the Cable box so it is different depending on what the current input is that you are using.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Will entering a channel number on any input go directly to the antenna input?

Or will pressing Source-1 take it to Input 1?

If not, the codes may be in a OFA remote. Edmund?

Have you tried using different models of Samsung TV's that are programmed oin the remote to see if they have the discrete input codes you are looking for seeing that most Samsung TV's work with the same codes. If you know someone with a computer programmable remote you could also load the Samsung TV input codes into that remote and then learn them into the 500.

I'm looking at the HL-S5087W TV, which is a very similar unit. The spec sheet on the unit clearly states it has discrete IR codes. "Refer to owner's manual" it says. Of course, true to Samsung's usual great documentation, there's nothing in the manual with repect to discrete IR codes. As suggested above, maybe try some codes from a similar unit. Interested in how you make out as I have an MX-500 and, as mentioned, am interested in a similar Samsung TV. Chris

OK, here's Samsung's documentation on their discrete codes: [Link: erms.samsungusa.com] Now, how do you make the codes jump off of the .PDF document into your MX-500? Chris

For some reason, this Samsung TV (and all their newer TV's) do not allow the channel button to go to the antenna input. It would be a lot easier for me if they would. Source - 1 does nothing as there is no number attached to any of the inputs.

Thanks for the response.

Hi,
I went through each Samsung TV code that was in the manual for the MX-500 and finally found one that had a discrete code for inputing off the antenna. No other input discrete codes but that one was all I needed to program the Macros that I wanted. Thanks for everyone's help!

I will need to check at my dad's house and get back to you. I know this code was on the second page in the LCD screen under a really weird name. I will let you know tomorrow.

I have the same TV, but the xx88 model which has the cable card, etc. I also have the same cable box. I had no problem at all finding the discrete codes for this DLP set. For what it's worth, the same codes work on my Samsung LCD TV in my bedroom... glad you got it working but if you have any questions let me know.

Thanks
