Is this a standard of this website for people to simply just email you without posting on this site. I mean I tried to help a bit, but isn't that what this site is for? It was just weird that two different guys asking for programming help on URC remotes in the same week. I'm sure by posting on this site, there are several opinions as to make a choice and the right decision. But here are guys that only want to hear my answer and do not post? I'm not used to this. What do other CI's do when this happens? Ignore, ask for $$, help for free?

The forum is a much better way to get support... at least then the problem along with possible solutions is available for anyone else searching.

I have to agree, I have had seveal requests for other products as well.

I have no problem pointing someone in the right direction and when time is availible go over a file for them. The pros do it all the time. I have sent files to guys and vice versa.

I guess it depends on the time you have availible, and whether your karma is on the + or - side.
When good enough is not good enough.

I'm not a CI. IR is just a hobby.

I get about ten requests for IR help by email per week. Sometimes I ignore them. Sometimes I give simple answers (less than I would if I saw the same question in a forum). Sometimes I just tell them to use the Forums.

Even if I'm the only one who would know the answer to some IR question (rarely true), I'd rather see the question in a forum and answer it there.

If you're a CI, even if you give answers for free in these forums, I think you should automatically ask for $$ for any requests starting by email.

If someone doesn't want to share their question (and the answer thereto) on this forum - which is, afterall, the entire purpose of this forum - they should expect to pay $$. The nerve of people today never ceases to amaze me...

I receive requests for help via email as a result of my participation on these forums as well. I've yet to have someone offended when I suggest I can help them directly for a fee, otherwise keep it in the forums. In fact, most of the emails I receive start out by asking if I'm willing to help them outside of the forums, and if so, what do I charge.

I've stopped replying to the people that have asked for help. I did help a few people and not once did I get a thanks in return. So F@#K them. I also find it pretty rude that someone would do this without posting first.

I hand out your email addresses to everyone that needs help with DIY Crestron installs.
I also hand out Jed's number to the guy doing surround with 6x9's in his living room.

I did get a thanks! And I got a payment sent in the mail and a remote that needed to be learned. So new not in the database yet. Programmed here on east coast, and emailed file to west coast so he can load using his own copy of the software he already had with remote. He was just too lazy to get into programming. Have him testing and will wait to see if there is a need for touch up here or there. SO far so good, fingers crossed. I can send the remote back after he ok's with the learned functions.
