I have used several MX850 with my Windows 7 PC and the USB adaptor faultlessley for many years. I went to use it today and it fails.

The MX850 editor gives the usual can't communicate message and the remote screen shows fail !

I have 2 USB adaptors, and the problem is the same with both, just wondered if anyone else had experienced and fixed a similar problem ?

I have done the MX850 reset (hold stop and main for 10 seconds) as well.

I assumed it was a windows 7 update, but I had an old Vista laptop that has been sitting in a box for years, that used to work fine as well with the USB adaptor, and that does not work either, so pretty much out of ideas.

Thanks

Could be an issue with the actual port on the remote - or even the cable.

Thanks doubt it as I have tried 2 Mx850s, with 2 different USB adaptors, one of which sat in a box as a spare.

I even got out an old windows xp pc with a physical com port and that did not work either, so am really stumped, about how its all uccured, let alone a fix.

Now this is odd, I have a few Mx850s (a few retired due to stickey buttons), and an MX700 and an Mx800. Just did a mass test and the mx700, mx800 and all but 2 of the mx850 work OK. Sadly the two in the best condition are the two mx850 that do not speak to the PC.

Any ideas ? Thanks

What do you mean "best" condition? Are you referring to them not being sticky? You can clean them with 90% isopropyl alcohol (in the first aid section of walmart beside the 70% version). Or methanol from the hardware store. Or you could open them and swap out the case of the offending remote.
