I have another post trying to fix some specific issues in my neighbors MX-900. They are on the verge of calling up the installer again to finish the re-hookup to restore all of their old functionality.

However, I am wondering if that is just throwing good money after bad.

Their system hasn't been updated in 10 years and includes an MX-900 and an MRF-260.
Components controlled are a Sony 53" TV, 400 Disc Blu Ray (connected to Receiver via HDMI) and a Combo TV/VCR (Connected to Receiver via RCA Jacks).
They watch TV only on Antenna.
Their Receiver is a Denon AVR-2112CI

My recommendation would be to add a Smart Stick (Roku/Fire), Ditch the VCR/DVD Combo (its currently having hookup problems), and get a new/different remote that might be easier to program.

Any recommendations one way or the other? Any good/easier to program remotes?

In any event, I am highly recommending they update a few of their components as necessary to have a professional installer add those in in addition to just restoring their old functionality.

Update the remote. Ask them how many cell phones they have had in 10 years.

Don’t use a stick, but use a Roku Ultra.  A stick leaves you “stuck” with a BT remote, while an Ultra can be controlled by the new URC remote.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Tom, Thanks!
They just got their first smart phones about 6 months ago, and before that, they had their flip phones for 7 years!
That's partly why I'm concerned about getting them set up on something new. If everything just went back to the way it was, there would be no problems for them, but I just don't know how hard it will be.

Thanks for the tip on the stick. I'll look into the Ultra.
