It doesn't matter what the remote that comes with the TV is. It could be powered my neural implants in your brain next year.

The TV "ITSELF" has IR control builtin and can be controlled by an IR remote of some sort. This is true for 100% of all the TVs made in the world right now! Or ever has been - at least since the 1980s.

There is not a single TV in the world that I'm aware of (and I'm pretty aware), that is controlled by RF only and has no IR sensor on it for additional IR control.

[edit]: Now in the future, to save a few pennies off the cost, it would not surprise me to see dumb manufacture start to remove those IR sensors. Leaving only control from the factory RF remote and IP control thru the network. But fortunately we are not there yet.

How abut the Sharp Elites whose IR boards would fry and no longer work.  Do those count?  :-D

Fortunately my 65" Sharp Elite spent its several years without frying :-).

Not according the the research I have done so far. Samsung & LG (Goldstar) seem to have only RF remotes. Only the lower end names (Vizio, Hisense, TCL for example) seem to still use IR.

My 2021 Samsung 75" QN900A responds to my IR remote quite readily ...

For those in this thread who were looking at YIO as an alternative, it's live on Kickstarter right now and the campaign expires on Sunday (just saw it today).

Thanks for the heads up, I've been contemplating it.

How does all of this play with the dedicated software for the older MX900?

I read numerous posts about the MX900, but nothing about it's software which I know still works since I use it.

I tried the CCP software years gao, but it's not user friendly and 10x overkill for that remote.
Years from now, you might as well kiss recording OTA TV goodbye thanks to ATSC 3

The dedicated MX900 software doesn't get updates anymore (not in a long time). So newer devices may not have any code sets in the database. Of course you can always learn in new codes.
Other than that, it is fine. Should work until the MX900 dies.

I just updated my mx-900 stand alone software, by hitting the live update in the software. So it is still being updated by URC.

I haven't had the stand alone MX900 software installed for a few years now. But back when I did have it installed still, over a year went by without any updates. And I thought I remember them saying they weren't going to be updating it anymore.

So they are updating the database for that software again? That is weird.

I recently formatted/reinstalled Windows and upgraded to Windows 10.
Today, I went to install my old URC CCP software.
Got that message about needing an account.
It didn't recognize my serial number but gave me an account anyways.
The download of the CCP software from the URC website is not a full application install package.
It's just an installer file and when you run it, it'll start downloading the latest software from URC. So, it's useless without an Internet connection.
Upon completion of the install, I ran an update and it said I already had the latest version (I expected this).
Then, I went through the nightmare of getting all this working under Windows 10.
My last install was Win8.1.

This is what worked for me in Win10:

1) Install URC CCP software.
2) Install Windows Mobile Device center (WDMC). I got mine from the link below as filename "drvupdate-amd64.exe":
[Link: support.honeywellaidc.com]
3) Plug in remote to computer and make sure the remote is awake or Windows won't see it.
4) In Device Manager it will show under "Other Devices" as an unknown device.
5) Update driver by navigating to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\Complete Control Program\MX-980\Drivers\Windows 7_Vista
6) Now in Device Manager it should show under "Mobile Devices" as "URC USB Sync MX2".

Btw, this software doesn't look good on a 4K display.
So, try to use it on an older PC connected to an 1080P or lesser monitor.
Unless you have super good eyes because it doesn't scale nicely in 4K.

Hello, I have an MX-900 that I was given, and CCP software somebody else gave me. I updated a few days ago and now get a message that says URC will be making changes "soon" that will require a login. So I blocked CCP and the 2 other live update .exe files from internet access. Should I be good? This remote really does all I need, and I won't be updating any equipment for some time.

Can you post a link to these directions? I wasn't able to find them using the forum search function. Thanks!

I cant find it either, hmm. Anyway here are insructions for Windows 10 with 4K monitor, hope it helps

goto C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\Complete Control Program
- right click CCP.exe
- click compatibility tab
- check the box for: Override high DPI scaling behavior
- in the drop down for: Scaling Performed By, choose System. In my case System yielded the best results, but you may want to try the System (enhanced) option to see which works best for you.

This also fixes several other programs with similar issues.
