You guys... You guys are awesome, man! Thanks, so much, for all the info. I will try Ernie's solution, even though I'm lucky to have been running CCP on multiple PCs (my last update prior to the bricking was 4.0.1106.7), since I had fully expected URC to go this route eventually.

Once I got the error on one PC, I simply backed up the other PC's installation to the PC that had the login update. I used EaseUS PC Trans software to do the backup and restore.

However, I will try Ernie's solution on yet another PC.

Thanks, again.

URC has responded to my AG's inquiry, and my AG has forwarded their response to me. There's a lot of revisionist history in it, but URC has agreed to immediately provide login creds for CCP to those that ask. Additionally, around 8/31, they will release an update to CCP that will *not* require creds, and will ask all users to register to continue using CCP, including serial #s of remotes. This will continue for 120 days. After that time, URC will again require creds to use CCP. They don't say, but I'm assuming that those who do not register within the 120 days will not be able to afterwards.

I have a few questions that I will send to URC.

1. are the current creds sufficient for login after the 120 day period, or will we need to register again during that period?

2. will CCP work with all equipment, or will URC limit it to the registered serial numbers?

3. Will URC provide access to a download version of the software so that it can be installed onto a new computer?

I saw there was another update yesterday but it didnt seem to affect the login.

So, that is an interesting twist.  I had the same questions as you.  Not sure if there is a way to find out ahead of time.

I'm of the mind the best idea is to simply stick with the last major update with the older URCFrame. I am reluctant to trust URC at this point that their registration system won't be a backhanded way of locking us out (or locking us down to the remotes we have registered at the time).

So when the the registration of serial #s happens what happens if you buy a remote afterwards?

I'm sticking with the prior login software.

I, as well, will stick to the URCFrame method. I'm thinking, maybe, register one of my remotes that does not work very well (e.g. the dim MX-780 and/or the low resolution MX-880) just to see what may transpire afterwards. I can run URC's latest version of the software on a separate PC and test whether any future updates may (not) allow updates to the (un)registered remotes.

Forum Members,

I unfortunately updated my CCP Software on 08/16/2021 and now it's asking me for a URC Dealer Portal Login. I have (2) MX-980, (1) MX-880, (1) MRF-350, and (2) MRF-260.

What are my options?

Please help.

Update after my questions to URC were answered:

1. If you register for credentials now, they should continue to work post-120 day period. In other words, URC says there is no need to re-register.

2. They were asking for physical address in registration. I pushed back that there is no need for this, and they agreed. Physical address should be optional.

3. I asserted that I would only register one of my many remotes, and URC said that they only needed "to be assured that a user of this software has a URC product in their possession". Sounds to me like there won't be limitations on which remotes get programmed.

4. Finally I asked for registered users to have access to a full download for CCP to install on new computers. URC said that we'll need to contact support, and if we are registered, they will provide the link.

I have all of this in email and I'm archiving it in case 'something happens'. FWIW I'm going to keep the older sw on an older laptop, and I'm going to use the updated one. I think I have sufficient evidence from URC that if they again limited use of CCP, I can go to the AG/FTC and again compel them to live up to their agreement.

As of right now the ccp software is still available on the old urc control room, see if you new credentials work on the older urc site?

Thank you daves22 for your work on this. The news seems good if URC is being straight. A new full install file would be an excellent idea. We should test the availability of that once we can register a remote with them.

I tried an experiment installing from an old install file (circa 2013):

The program installed, but would not run properly -- because of a DLL registration error IIRC. However, I then overwrote that installation with a saved copy of the July 12 installed version, started the program, and the July 12 version ran OK. So it seems possible to go back to that one if necessary assuming you have an old full install file and a saved copy of a July 12 installation. Of course, the URL.ini file would have to be disabled immediately to avoid an update.

Meanwhile, I have the old version running on my main computer, and the new version running on an older machine. I'll decide which to keep as things develop with URC.

Looks like URC have moved their plans forward.

After accepting the latest update CCP opens and instead of the login popup, now a new popup says:

"URC will soon be changing it's policy regarding access to our software
To ensure you continue to have access please fill out the requested information at the link below
[Link: urcportal.com]"

This now asked you to fill in your email to verify if you currently have access to CCP. If you've already contacted URC and got your login credentials you get this message:

"You are approved for future access to CCP! Your Login credentials have been sent to the email you entered. Please make sure to check your SPAM folder!

If you've not registered and the email is unknown to URC, you're asked to register including name, phone number, a serial number from a remote and tick the terms and conditions shown.

I requested a link to the new(er) CCP install but have not got a reply. I am registered and do have login info.

Still using July 12th. Portable version until it is all sorted.
