I have both the Residential and Commercial versions of the CCP software. The residential version updated and requires the login but the commercial version does not. Strange.

They are now offering it for free, which is fair enough for me. The link I posted does work and another user got his login credentials within hours; as did I. So, go ahead and request credentials. They just ask for your name, address and email address. They dont ask too many details about which model etc. Try the link/

Not sure I trust URC at this point to provide them with authentic information for credentials.

Good point. I didn't think about it and I had given my authentic info for credentials. :)

I used my real credentials and also emailed them and asked them to let me know if they required any additional documentation, i.e., my sales receipt. They setup my user ID and password within 20 minutes of my original request. I saved off the old URCFrame file just in case they decided to do something like disable my ID so I could always go back to the hacked up version. I still have the old version on my desktop that I will not update.

I updated my laptop with the newest software and it's working just fine. The worst case scenario for me is that they disable it and I will go to my local dealer and just buy a Control4 system and have them install it for me. The would work a deal for me based on my past purchases from them.

The ONLY Gotcha I can see is if they modify the firmware on the remotes to ONLY work with the Login Version. :( So watch for that.

THAT would generate even more ire than this fiasco if done without warning or option to abort before proceeding. I hope the company isn't that short sighted, but then again, we are talking about URC...

...But it is normal for software to have to be re-installed etc for whatever reason). So, at the very least, URC needs to provide a standalone installer (not an update) that can be installed and works without a password and will not update to being locked out.

I've seen the update where we can now request logins and re-gain acces to CCP - that's good, but ^^^THIS^^^ situation (however rare) still kind of worries me.

Or has URC completely reversed course and will allow end-users use of CCP going forward?

I have heard some vendors have created a "Portable" version for their customers. Just extract and go. It does not update, it works with the Remote(s) that it is provided with.

Even though I now have a URC login I'm going to stay with the version I have that came out before the login fiasco. I really don't need access to any new devices as I can easily learn the IR or program the wifi commands manually. Actually I had to do that when setting up control of Kodi.

I've seen too many instances where cloud based services go away to give up a non phone home version.

....The July 13th CCP update (4.11.0712.1) was a huge update, rewriting a lot of the code. If you try and run that version or newer, it requires you to enter a dealer login.

I just re-read URC's July 13th Press Release announcing the new MX-790, and they mention the software update and that it now adds password protection to dealers and their end-users....

Excerpt:

A live software update is planned for Complete Control surrounding the launch of the MX-790. Part of this live update includes the addition of password protection. This step provides greater security and support to our certified dealers and their end-users.

Uggh, I reversed the Program and bypassed the login requirement entirely (patched it) last night. Took me about an hour. It was a hook to an entry in a URC dll that I just jumped past using IDA Pro.
Then, read the forum and found that post about the URC webpage this morning to just request a login? Really? Heck, just applied for one. They gave it to me with the quickness and I am rockin' like a lambs' baby. I wasted an hour of my time because I am super duper happy and just fine with an actual login. Why bother to even care if URC has your info; your a potential customer. Bad for business. They get to know me, I get to know them. Dandy. Just get an account and move on and while your at it - thank URC for the supporting program allowing possibilities to customize system integration. I for one, have some design pointers and some hiccups they might like to hear about, maybe I can help them out too. If they force a login, I'll just "patch" it again. Don't make no difference to me. Wifes happy. I'm happy. Be happy.

Where was the hook?  Posting it might help other although most probably will not know what to do with it.  The free version of IDA will not allow you to edit the hex IIRC?
