Not sure if I'm in the right place:
I'm looking to update some of my 10-12 year old equipment. Is the MX-800 still a viable option to control a new receiver? Apple TV? I still have the setup software, although haven't used it in 8-10 years - so that should be fun!

Although it may be capable, it is a 15 year old remote that probably has a few buttons that are not making the same good contact as when new. Plus the fact that the select button in the middle was a big mistake. Update to an 890 minimum, and you will be very happy that you did.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

If it's still working physically, then yes, it'll control a new TV, amp, Apple TV 4k, etc. Make sure your computer can still control it though - getting new PCs to play nice with a serial port isn't always easy.

Beyond that, a more modern remote will result in a better experience, especially since the 800 doesn't have all the hard buttons one would want today.
