On the old MX-850 you can hold down the main button and hit a programmed macro and it will skip the macro and go straight to the "jump to" at the end of the macro. Do the MX-900 and MX-780 have a similar feature?

Couldn't you just build a press-and-hold macro to only do the jump on the cable/dvd/roku button?

Perhaps. I did put a jump to button on the next page on the MX780, then wondered if there were an alternative like with the MX850. I also set up an old MX900 for a friend, so asked about this on both models. I have used MX850's exclusively in my home. I didn't like the MX900 as much as the 850, so finally gave mine to a friend. I am playing with an MX780 just to learn more about it. I am a retired hifi/video salesman who learned to program when I sold these.

I must say that for my simple home theater needs the MX850 does a fine job.

People need to move on from the 850.  It was great in its day but it is way to limiting.  2 main pages, no variables at all.  It is just too basic for the crap gear that is out there today for it to control.  At least stepping up to the 900 and 780 fix those issues and some others.  Variables are incredibly important IMHO.  While the two mentioned have basic variable abilities, it is still incredibly powerful compared to what you would have to do with a 850.  Simple things like powering on a theater with a projector would either result in LONG delays when switching between sources once on, or require two button presses to power the system on.  A 780 or 900 could provide the power on delay for the projector from off, and at the same time have quick input switching between sources with no delay, all way pressing just one button to power it on.  The little things like that make it worth moving on from the 850.

I believe you Goldy. For me the MX850 works because I have a simple Denon receiver and TV based home theatre. It runs those, my Tivo, my Roku and Bluray just fine. Unlike the MX780, the display on the remote is always on. I like that. I also have more than a decade of finding the buttons without looking :). You are the pro and I am sure you also know tricks that I don't. I should learn more about the features you are describing.

Years ago I came up with a macro that turns the system on, gives input commands immediately, and then repeats the inputs after 3 seconds. That way there is no delay in switching inputs if everything is on.

Thanks for your response. BTW, the serial to USB adaptor use to give me fits, but my current Win10 computer seems to find the correct port setting every time.
