Believe it or not, I have an MX-810 that still works. However, it's beginning to have a few nagging issues so I want to start looking for a replacement. I realize the 810 software is totally different than the complete control, however i'm completely willing to take on the responsibility of programming a newer URC if I can get the remote, base station, and software from a dealer. So are is there any dealers who will give me the software? If so, I would appreciate a few names. I would also appreciate any recommendations for which URC to consider. I like the feel of the 810 with hard buttons, but I'm willing to consider touch screen for some of the buttons. Also, I like the idea of being able to control my smartthing devices, but that's not a requirement.

Sorry to post this hear, but I'm hoping to hear from some URC experts before I post a general message on the which remote should I buy forum.

URC has a dealer finder. you can call some local ones and see if they will give you the software. There used to be some online dealers like Surf remote control and ? total remotes or something like that. You could try them.

There are 3 basic models.

MX780 - smaller screen, AA batteries
MX890 - similar to MX780 with slightly larger screen, docking station and rechargeable battery. Also, a pick up sensor so the screen comes on when you pick it up. The 780 has a light button on the side. More options in programming
MX990 - Larger screen, more screen buttons nicer keys. worth the extra $50 over the 890

Base stations-

MRF-260 - I rarely use except for very simpe installations and I have enough room to keep it away from the equipment. Has 4 IrR ports

MRF-350 - External antenna makes it worth the extra money, as well as 6 IR ports.

MRX-2 - if you want to use apps for your phone or tablet to control the system then this is the one you need.

Personally, I like the 990 with the 350 base station.

The 890 is far superior the 780. Just the mere fact that the 780 only has a basic true/false variable ability is reason enough to go with the 890. It used to have an event timer as well, not sure if it still does or not. I'd say the price to go from the 780 to 890 is worth it and the jump from 890 to 990 is more about preference and desire on graphical customization and ability to play sounds.

780 to 890 is a dramatic improvement.

890 to 990 is equally dramatic. Way faster downloads, it makes a difference. Bigger, brighter screen is significant. Brilliant backlit buttons is even more significant.

When I show clients 890 and 990, they pick the 990 by at least 4 to 1.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

The jump from 890 to 990 is mainly aesthetics. The jump from 780 to 890 is mainly function.

There's always URC MX-HomePro that gives you "unlimited" iOS/Android as part of the cost of the H500 processor. They also just released a new WiFi remote in the line that looks a lot like the MX-890 (charging base, pickup sensor) at less money than the MX-890. It adds a fair amount of 2-way modules for the remote, and interesting use of an app launcher in phones/tablets. Also included are user programmable favorite channels.

You get 2 more LCD panel buttons with the 990 than the 890. That was the deciding factor for me.
