I use an mx980 and I like the form factor since it is comfortable to use with one hand. Is there a Urc remote similar to the mx980 form factor but with an lcd display that is a touchscreen (so the user can control things by either pressing the side buttons or pressing the lcd screen)?

URC had a remote model MX-1200 that had full touch screen at the top (no side buttons adjacent to the touch screen).
Otherwise, I would look at the MX-990. It's a replacement for the MX-980, no touch screen, and has 8 buttons adjacent to the screen.

Thanks. Strange they don’t make a remote like he mx980 with a touchscreen. I guess I’ll go with the mx990 as you suggest.

Simply put, touch screens do not make great remotes. Tactile feel is lost and requires constant looking down at the remote. Same reasons an app does not make for a good remote.

There may still be a few MX-5000s in the pipeline. Decent for IR and RF, maybe not so good for networked stuff.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I actually have a MX5000 or two I can sell. Might need new batteries though.

I agree. I was thinking instead about something like a mx980 or 990 with all the hard buttons they have (including the side buttons next to the top lcd screen) but with the top lcd screen being a touchscreen (so the user can either press the side buttons or press the screen). Anyway, I think I am going to go with the 990. Thanks for the info.

Most touch screen interfaces are customizeable or have templates that have difference positioning for different devices. The 990 is a nice remote and I think you would like it.

I have an MX1200 and MRF350 new in their boxes for sale at the market place [Link: remotecentral.com]

Only buy these items if you have access to programming software. I do not have software to give you. I only have what is in the boxes and im pretty sure that URC will not provide software or support to you.
