I inherited a URC system (professionally installed) but the SNP-1 is now a brick and we don't use any other automation features. Can I simply hook up Sonos Connect to the DMS-1200 like any other amp, and get rid of the URC switch and MRX-10? The DMS-1200 seems like a solid amp and I'd like to keep using it.

The DMS-1200 can be controlled via IR through its IR input and use it like a regular amp. If you use CCP the codes are in the database. If you want to adjust any of its EQ or other features you have to do it on the network through Total control.

In order to make the amp work, you need to URC Accelerator software, which is dealer only.  Even if you had it, this isn't a simple thing to set up.  If you do a search, I've explained previously how to make a DMS1200 work as a stand alone amp.  You still need that URC switch though, or you will crash your network.

In standalone using IR for Control, does it require a network connection?

yes.

all analog audio connections become streams on the network.  the DMS amp then picks those streams off the network.  if you don't connect it to the network, you get no sound.  (that's why I said he still needs that URC switch)

I get the needing the switch if connected to network. I was just not aware it required it for standalone. I've never connected one outside of TC.

Before I was comfortable using Total Control on our yachts, we used to install DMS amps and controlled them with CCP.  That's how I figured out how the DMS stuff works.  Everything is put on a stream so the audio stays in sync.

I can see how no one would know with the way TC is sold and described in training.  Good info though, thanks for sharing.

Hey guys... I purchased a ton of URC gear and I think it’s above my inelect on getting it to work. 4 amps and a bunch of other network stuff with 5 remotes 3 URC 780s and 2 trc1280s. (1) DMS1200,(2)DMS AV TSP 2000, (1)DMS-100 if anyone is interested. I can send pics if you like.

It's all old and outdated, especially the remotes. Most likely not one will want the amps either unless dirt cheap. It's dealer only software so only a dealer will want to buy it. If it's not significantly less than cost, I'm sure everyone will pass on it

the DMS1200 and DMS100 are the only products in that lineup that are still current.



The TSP2000/DMSAV had all kinds of reliability issues, so you may be able to move that on ebay to someone looking for a replacement, but don't expect a lot for it.

the remotes won't fetch much at all.
