Hello,

I have a beginner question regarding the CCP software. Best Buy programmed an MX-880 remote for me a while back, and I wanted to add a small fix -- just adding a "back" button to the cable box functions. Rather than pay hundreds of dollars to have Best Buy come out to my house just for that quick fix, I loaded the file onto my computer and made the change in the CCP software on my own.

Then I go to the "communications" tab and hit "Send to Remote" to load the revised file back onto the remote. But when I do that, now none of the functions on the remote work. Is there something I need to do to "finalize" the file, or am I exporting it correctly?

For example, when I go back and re-send the old file that Best Buy created, now all the functions work (except, of course, my change isn't incorporated). Do I need to select the "Program" tab and then "Download"?

How did I go from all functions working to no functions working simply by adding a "back" button to the cable box and then clicking, "communications," and "send to remote"?

Thanks!

No, there's no "finalize" step. Obviously something you did must have compromised the functions. You get all the pages in the remote but nothing happens when you push any button?

Did the remote go through the downloading and re-booting with no errors? Does the "sending" indicator in the remote light up when you push a button?

Went through the "communications" tab, "send to remote" function with no errors. All the pages appear in the remote as normal, but none of TV/components respond to any of the functions. I believe the sending indicator lights up when I push a button, but none of the components respond.

I'm surprised, because I barely changed the file. All I did was add a back button to page 1 of the cable functions, using codeset 202 (for Comcast Xfinity box), and then went to "communications" and "send to remote." Yet that small change now results in none of the remote's functions working.

Yet when I open up the old, unrevised CCP file and send that to remote using the exact same method, all the functions are restored and everything works normally.

I wonder if instaling that new code changed the used device to one that has different remote codes. When you say all remote codes, you mean the cable box codes or every other device too?

Adding that one code to the cable box and then sending the file to the remote somehow makes no functions work -- i.e. the TV functions don't work, the Blu-Ray player functions don't work, the receiver functions don't work, etc.

But yet reverting and reinstalling the old file fixes everything back to normal. That's why I suspect it has something to do with how I am sending the revised file to the remote that is causing the problem, since it's unlikely that adding one cable box IR function would screw up all programmed functions across the board, no?

upload the files to dropbox and post links.  maybe one of use can find something in there that is causing the problem.

do you have an RF basestation installed?  The macros use the "IR Please Wait" Page, but the file shows an RF basestation.

Try this file:  [Link: dropbox.com]

I set it up so the IR comes from the remote itself, and not through the basestation.

If you do have a basestation, ignore the file i posted and make sure the rf channel dial on the basestation is set to 3.

Thanks! I have an MRF-350 base station. I'm not sure why Best Buy put the jump to "IR Please Wait" codes on the macros. Possibly to give me a screen to look at while the macros are performing. Aside from that, I'll make sure the base station is on channel 3, but I suspect it is since nothing changed in the physical setup, only a small programming change -- and now nothing responds.

This is what is so puzzling to me: The file looks okay (aside from those IR Please Wait codes that aren't serving any purpose), and yet no components are responding to any functions. That's why I'm wondering if the problem is something to do with the downloading to remote process -- since the file looks okay in CCP, but once it's sent to the remote, nothing works.

I could call Best Buy again, but they want to charge $450 just to take a look at what is going on. I tried calling URC dealers, but none will do it on a pre-existing system unless they are the ones who built the system. So, thus, Best Buy, unfortunately, was the only company willing to build a file for an existing setup.
