I could not connect my MX-980 via CCP when I upgraded to windows 10. I tried all the suggestions on the forum and they did not work. I called URC and they gave me the following solution that worked.

Right click on the windows icon on the taskbar, select Computer Management, select services and applications,

Select Services, Select "Windows Mobile-2003 based device connectivity, select log on tab, unselect "This account", select Local system account, the check off Allow service to interact with desktop

Run CCP, try to download file. It will probably hang. Unplug remote, the replug back in. and try again.

Should work now.

If anyone wants to show their appreciation to me, simply PM letting me know they would be willing to help me with a question when I have an issue or need upgrade advice :)

Thanks for the valuable information! I literally came here for the purpose of sharing this same advice. I hadn't needed to program my MX-980 for a long time, but I couldn't for the life of me get it to work with Win 10 yesterday. After doing a lot of Googling, I came across the same solution that URC suggested. In my case, however, the solution had nothing to do specifically with the MX-980. I had noticed that Windows Mobile Device Center wasn't working properly, and I came across this page suggesting a fix ...

Hopefully, this will help others to avoid the headache we went through. :)

It worked! I've been struggling with this for months. That little tweak to the service did the trick. Mahalo.

Sweet jeebus, this worked! I've been muddling along using a VMWare Windows 7 install. Adding .Net 3.5, installing WMDC, then adding the reg keys at the bottom of that link did the trick for me. This is on Win 10 Build 1709.

Looks like a Windows 10 update messed things up. I could not see " "Windows Mobile-2003 based device connectivity" anymore. Reinstalled WMDC and then went through the steps in the original post and it worked.

Wonder if this post should be a "sticky"?

My first experience with URC tech support in years yesterday and I was bloody impressed. Having the above issue with Windows 10, tech support logged in and had me up and running in 10 minutes.

So much better than the old standard, Have never heard of that before.

Where did you download WMDC from? When I "Google" it, I find the 6.1 for Windows Vista and it won't allow me to install it for Win 10. Do you have a link I could use to download it for Win 10? I am on the same build as you. Thank you.

Duck Tape - thank you very much! I had no idea. Just to be clear, I have CCP installed on Windows 10, make sure I install NET Framework 3.5, then install MDC from the CCP software. Once all that is done, I should be able to connect my remote via USB and it will show up in device manager? Am I missing something?

it should show up in device manager.  you may still have to load the driver manually.  the drivers are located in the folder for the remote within the CCP program folder.

Thanks sooooooo much Diamond Dog. I have been trying for over a year and found your post today. This was the last item (of several) left for me that worked great in Windows XP and became an issue in Windows 10.

Thanks for the info Diamond Dog. In addition to changing "Windows Mobile-2003 based device connectivity" as you indicated, I also had to change "Windows Mobile-based device connectivity" in the same way. Otherwise, I would get an error when changing the Mobile-2003 settings. Once I changed both, my MX-980 was able to connect in Windows 10.
