A friend of mine has a Samsung TV (UN60H6400AF) and a Samsung DVD player (BD-P4600). I am having a big issue with the power commands for these two devices. It appears like the dvd recognizes the power commands for the tv and vice versa. It looks like Samsung in their infinite wisdom decided to use the exact same IR code to turn on their tv's and dvd players.

Is anyone else having an issue like this? I am using the discreet Power On and Power Off for the tv and they turn on the dvd player along with the tv. This seems stupid if you wanted to have two Samsung devices in your setup. The macros never seem to work right since the power commands always get crossed. His solution right now is to just keep the dvd player totally unplugged until he wants to use it. I tried learning the IR command from the stock remotes, but it looks like the manufacturer's remote control does this too.

Any ideas on how to keep these two devices from using each other's IR codes? He is using an MX-980. I supposed an MRF base and emitters could be one way, but I don't he'll go down that road of buying a new device to solve this issue.

Turn off CEC control. It's not the same IR codes but if CEC control is enabled, the BluRay will turn on when the TV does and vice-versa.

First thing we do with every TV and BluRay

Why doesn't clear33765 deserve a "can't fix stupid" from you?  I mean this is pretty basic stuff, especially for a pro.

Thx kgossen. Damn, I never thought of that. The CEC was enabled in both devices. Turning it off solved the issue. And I'm not a pro!

I hate CEC control, it should come factory off and then you can turn it on if you want. Glad that was it.

CEC sounds good in theory, but with a lot of people using Harmonys and other higher end universal remotes, it just complicates everything. If you are the type who refuses to spend a little bit of money for even a low end Harmony, then using CEC to limit the amount of remotes on your coffee table is probably a nice idea.

There are so many things out there that, "In Theory", should work well but don't.

It's your problem too. You are compelled to waste your time responding to every provocative post I make. Can be fixed with 2 words from you. Otherwise, this is going to continue indefinitely.
