Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a hard button remote to replace my MX-3000. It seems that buying a new one on ebay (the only alternative since I am in Norway) will cost me around USD 400 plus shipping +/- 10 % for either model. I have the CCP program at home (it came with a second hand MX-900 I bought, but never used).

I assume the programming of either is pretty much the same (and hopefully doable by an amateur with 20 years of Pronto and MX-3000 experience..?).

My research seems to suggest that the 890 is lighter and easier to use ergonomically, but that the 990 has more of a quality feel to it? Other than the 8 vs 6 hard buttons around the LCD screen, is there much of a difference between the two?

Best
Christopher

Larger screen. Plus.

Backlit buttons on the 990 are brilliant and bright. Big plus.

990 is all I would sell if I were the king of the AV world. Go for it.

Is the 990 significantly larger and/or heavier than the 900?

How do I answer that… It is larger because it has a larger display. Is it heavier? I can't recall picking up a remote and saying this thing is too heavy. So I don't honestly know how to answer your question. To me it is the most appealing remote they have ever made by a long shot.

OK, final question (hopefully), the plastic is of a better quality than on my MX-900 which has turned into a sticky mess after two years unused in a box!?

You'll have to check with me in 6 or 7 years.

Does anyone know where I can buy one (MX-990) to be shipped to Norway? The ones I find on Amazon and eBay seem to be for US delivery only.

Are you sure that software that came with your old MX-900 is actually CCP? Because that remote originally used the older "MX Editor" software which won't work with the MX-990 or MX-890. The MX-900 was later added to the CCP software, so just checking to be sure you actually do have CCP (not MX Editor) before spending big money on an MX-990 or MX-890 in case you don't realize there is a difference between the two programs.

I briefly handled an MX-990 at Magnolia and i actually prefer the balance and feel and smaller size of my MX-890, but maybe because i'm so familiar with the MX-890. I use it almost completely by feel and rarely look at the screen or lighted buttons so that has something to do with it too. The MX-990 felt of similar build quality and tactile button feel as my MX-890.

Thanks Randy for warning me of that potential pitfall. I do have CCP, and the MX-990 is an option when create a new configuration, so I should be OK :-)

I have already spent the big bucks, my main worry is the use of RF. I am having trouble with my MX-900, and I guess the 990 wont be any easier. The MX-3000 is quite solid and stable, and none of them are i-models, but I will probably work it out eventually...

I can't agree with the 990 assessment. I was highly disappointed in this remote. If you're looking for internal programming power, the variable options on the 890 are way more powerful. You can customize the 890 graphically (It takes a little more effort, but can be done). The 990 is a 980 with a facelift, so they don't have to software support the 980 anymore. It's old software in new hardware.

Put the 890 and 990 side by side.

Then put your personal preferences aside.

Done deal.

The 990 just arrived. Beautiful, and lighter than my 900, much easier to hold. :-) Charging now....

Is there anyway to transfer my old 900 config to the 990?

Does anyone know where I can find the Programming Manual? It's not in my Help folder of the CCP? I have the Owner's Manual, but not the programming manual.
