Hello,

New to this forum and have a quick question for you all. I currently have a URC MX-880 remote that programs my home theater system in my basement. I have another TV/cable setup on my main floor that I want to be controlled by its own, separate 880-based system.

I'm wondering if there will be any interference issues with adding a second, separate 880-setup in close proximity to my existing setup, given that they'd both be using the 418mhz band. I called URC and they said there shouldn't be any issues so long as they are programmed correctly, but to me that assumes both setups won't be used simultaneously. I would like to have the flexibility of being able to use both at once (i.e. someone watching on the basement tv while someone else simultaneously using the main floor tv).

Are there any drawbacks to using a MX-880i remote/base station (433mhz band) for the second setup? What about a MX-880z setup (2.4ghz)? Or will I be okay with another 880 (418mhz) setup?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would NOT recommend mixing these systems into a 418Mhz system; they are meant to combat local interference, not interference from their own products. Here is a disadvantage: If you have all consistent products, each remote can communicate with multiple base stations. When you start mixing and matching, only the corresponding remote will work with the base station. For example, a ZigBee remote cannot talk to 433 base station, just like a 418 remote will not talk to a ZigBee base.

Keep your system consistent, follow best practices and you should have no issues.

Stick with the 880. Just program it properly and you'll be just fine. I have 12 - 980s using the same MSC-400 now for 7+ years without issue.

Thanks, guys! Just to clarify:

What I envision are two separate setups. One downstairs, consisting of a MX-880 remote, MRF-350 base station and RFX-250 antenna, hooked up to a home theater system. Then a second MX-880, MRF-350 and RX-250 hooked up to a TV/cable box upstairs.

It sounds like both setups should be on 418mhz and I'd be fine, correct? Even if a person upstairs and downstairs are pushing buttons at the same time, this won't cause confusion/interference issues if they are both on 418mhz?

Thanks again!
