I have two Sony DVP-CX995V megachangers hooked up to an MSC-400 controlled by MX-3000 and MX-950 remotes. These changers can be set to respond to three different code sets so that they can be used in a single installation. I've been using two different code sets to control them, with no problems.

I just bought two more of these, and I set one of them to the third Sony code set. For some reason, the remotes seem to be having trouble with the preprogrammed codes. The original remote works when set to three, but the codes from the remote don't do anything at all.

This is a real puzzler, since I have no trouble with the first two code sets. Is it possible the third code set in the URC remotes doesn't work? I've never seen anyone else report this problem, so it doesn't seem likely.

Why not just do some IR routing or use some of the RS232 outputs so you can use the same codeset with each changer?

I want to say that I did a mx900 with one of those megachangers a couple months ago and had some problems if the dvd player was set to any code set other than 1. I didn't look too much into it as there was only one in the simple theater so I just kept it on code1.

Well, I'm going to have to use IR Routing for one of them anyway, as I have four players and only three code sets. But I'd still like to use different codes if possible, as it eliminates the possibility of one player responding to the commands meant for another.

The 995Vs don't have serial interfaces or I would have used that.

I think I'll try setting triggers for each code in the MSC-400 in case it is an RF-related problem. Learning is another possibility I haven't tried yet too.

And if I can't figure it out, it'll be black tape and IR routing all the way!

Since the units don't have 232 or IR input on the back you could always place the emitters inside the case to avoid your black tape fix. This in combination with IR routing should yield the results you are looking for. Looks cleaner too.

Quick update on this as I finally got around to working on it again. The built-in changer 3 codes in the URC database definitely don't work. I ended up learning all the codes from the factory remote and now they work. The built-in ones do not. Surprising to me that nobody else has discovered this until now (maybe people with three changers are still somewhat rare).

I also bought Xantech IR covers to put over the emitters. They look considerably better than black tape and completely cover the IR windows.

Next problem to work on is getting the MSC400 IR routing to work with the fourth changer. I have that one plugged into one of the extended IR ports (port 10) and have the remote set up to send commands to the secondary RF ID, port 4, which is supposed to map to 10. Of course the commands all come out port 4 instead, because nothing is ever that easy. *sigh*

Well, one changer at a time -- at least the third one works now!

If anyone has any suggestions for making the commands come out the right port, I'm all ears. Am I really the only one this isn't working for? Maybe! ;-)
