Hi. I've used an MX-850 for many years, having programmed it myself with the standalone editor software. But it is developing problems with some of the buttons, and it was time for a new remote.

So, I contacted the Canadian distributor for URC, who supplied me with the name of a local dealer. The dealer quoted a price to which I agreed, and he also agreed to supply the CCP software, after he first called URC to ensure that it was okay to do so. Long story short, I am happily programming the new remote. The CCP software is much better than, in fact sort of an advanced version of, the MX-850 standalone editor with which I am quite familiar, so that is not an issue.

Okay, I just wanted to get that out of the way first. Now to the problem. I have a Sony BDP-BX510 (also known as BDP-S5100) BD player. The OEM remote which came with it (Sony RMT-B119A) does not have two of my most used buttons:  Replay and Advance (well, actually, Replay is a most-used button; Advance not so much).  However, the player does respond just fine to those codes, which I learned to the MX-850 from the OEM remote of an earlier Sony BD (or DVD) player; I no longer remember which one*.

BUT, I cannot get any codes to operate those player functions from the MX-780!  The DVD device code 368, for Sony BDP-S5100, doesn't have those codes.  But, I have tried all of the device codes listed for Sony in the DVD group.  I have tried all of the buttons for each device code.  That includes buttons with identical or similar names, as well as all other buttons.  None of the codes in the database will operate those functions.

I have also used the Universal Browser to import those codes from my MX-850 .mxf file, which were learned from the OEM remote, and they also do not work on the MX-780 (the remote shows activity when they are sent), though they still work fine from the MX-850!  As a point of reference, other codes that were learned to the MX-850 from an OEM remote, and then imported to the MX-780 via the Universal Browser (such as the Yamaha RX-V571 Stereo/Mono button), work fine on the MX-780, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the UB.  It just seems as though the MX-780 cannot (correctly) send those codes?!?

What else can I try?

* It could have been BDP-S370/RMT-B107A, DVP-NS718H/RMT-D187A, DVP-NS575P/RMT-D165A, or DVP-NS325/RMT-D152A, all of which I've owned in the past.

Erase the contents of the two buttons, and teach directly from the mx-850 or an oem remote. When I mean erase, that's both preprogrammed and learned commands. Unlike the mx-850, mx-780 will fire both types commands mapped to key at the same time.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do always start with a completely empty button when dragging/learning. But that's very interesting that the MX-780 will send two different commands from the same button?

Okay, I did learn those buttons from the MX-850. The 780 shows signal being sent, but still does not operate the player. The 850 still operates the player fine. Huh?

Could this have something to do with repeats? I've tried just tapping the button, and also holding the button, when sending to the player, but it makes no difference.

From this site, the file [Link: files.remotecentral.com] has all the Sony codes.  I'm going to try importing the Pronto Hex for some of those, to test.

The above mentioned file contains six DVD and three BD codesets. I tried them all, and I found one that worked: BD codeset 26.226. FYI.
