I have just set up the volume rocker switch on my MX-850 with learned IR codes for Vol+ and Vol- for a Oppo BDP-105 universal media player, but these do not operate in the expected manner.

The Oppo's volume is displayed as a number in the range 0-100. Holding down the Vol+ key on the Oppo's dedicated remote causes a continous increase in volume. However, holding down the Vol+ key on the MX-850 just increases the volume by one or two notches. I have to keep releasing and re-pressing the key in order to make a significant increase in volume. The Vol- key behaves in the same way.

I haven't made serious use of the MX-850 Editor for a few years, so I may have forgotten some basic skills. Some guidance would be appreciated.

You know what they say; when all else fails, read the instructions!

I found a tutorial from URC that advised using a 'fluttering' technique when learning IR codes for buttons that were intended to act in a continuous manner, such as volume controls.

I re-taught my MX-850's volume buttons while rapidly stabbing the relevant button on the original Oppo remote. This fixed the problem.

I spoke too soon. My problem is only partially resolved.

Holding down the Vol+ or Vol- key on my MX-850 now acts in a continuous manner to alter the volume, but it does this at a much slower rate than the original Oppo remote.

Can anyone offer suggestions for speeding up the volume adjustment process on the MX-850?

Erase the learns, reteach but just press and hold down the volume keys on the donor remote during learning. There is also chance the volume keys are giving out on mx-850, happens all the time.

Hi Edmund,
Many thanks for that re-learning suggestion, which has fixed my problem. The MX-850 and the original Oppo remote now operate at the same rate. In both cases, it takes 11 seconds to increase the volume from 0 to 100 (or vice versa).

Not intending to hijack this thread, but that's very interesting, because my MX-850 is having exactly that problem--though not with the Volume buttons, but rather with the Channel buttons, the FF button, and the SELECT button. Is this a known issue?

On older remotes? Of course.
