I received a new HR24 Directv receiver (old one quit... was also HR24). My MX-780 remote controlled the old Directv receiver via RF without issue. I can now only make the MX-780 control the new DTV receiver with IR. Assuming I have all the wires attached correctly (e.g. to the front of the HR24) is there something I can do to get things working via RF again that doesn't involve programming (since I lack such skills!)?

Just wondering if there is a fix that doesn't involve calling the folks that sold me the remote.

Shine a flashlight on the front panel. Locate the opaque circle that is the IR window. Move emitter to IR window.

No universal (except Nevo C3 / Xsight Touch) can control any DirecTV box directly via RF. Your old one was controlled via IR. You have to go into the settings on your new box to enable IR.

We got a new kitten over THanksgiving. She likes to crawl into the electronics cabinet (for the warmth I assumed). Turns out she chewed through the MX-780 cable leading to the Directv receiver. It wasn't until I got in there and started to try your suggestions that I figured it out. Many thanks for all for helping out.

There are no mx-780 wires to be placed in a cabinet. The only mx-780 wire would be the programming cable.

One day my projector would not turn on or off via my MX-890/MRF-350. Turns out our new kitten had also chewed through the emitter wire. Why couldn't he have picked a wire that all I had to do was replace the emitter instead of soldering the head to the CAT5 running to the projector.

Wife wanted a glass door on the equipment cabinet, but I did not since I was worried about heat build up. So now we have a piece of cardboard covering the bottom of the cabinet so he can't get back in. Hopefully he will outgrow his fascination with the cabinet.
