I hope I can explain this clearly. I imported a file from this site and placed it in Control Suite. I now need to adjust this file to fit my system. Is this HARDER than starting from scratch? For example, I need to change VCR to TIVO, and then when I figure it out, I will need to change macros, etc. Whats my best bet: Starting Fresh or using existing file configurations? Should I search for ones that already have TIVO in the file? It can be overwhelming at first, but I do see the logic behind the instruction guide. I think I can figure this out with a little guidance from you experts.
THANKS!!

If the system/remote is already all programmed and working correctly then it should be pretty easy to change one device like that. I'm guessing the VCR is coming out and a TIVO being put in its place? If so then you could delete the VCR device and then just create a new device called TIVO, assign the correct IR database device to it and/or learn in any needed commands, then make the macro when going to the tivo unit.

Probably the trickiest part will be thinking through the overall operation of the system and how it will be used now that they have this tivo. If you they've been using a cable or satellite box to watch tv are you now running the tuner box through the tivo (in which case you may not need separate 'Watch Cable' and 'Watch Tivo' menu options, are is the tivo just using its on cable tuner as a standalone device, etc.....

Anyway, unless the system isn't working well right I don't see why you would need to start over. If there are a lot of issues with it currently though and you find yourself having to fix a bunch of small problems then it may be worth it to begin froms scratch.

Also a newbie--big time. So far I have been unable to use the files downloaded from the site. When I click on the file directly all is well. But I have not been able to figure out how to map the file onto the 3000. Slave.... you mentioned a control suite. Is my anser there?

Whether using an existing file is harder or easier than starting from scratch is entirely a function of how the creator of the file designed it. If the file was designed as a template, and was meant to be reused, then it's probably much, much easier.

After spending about 30 hours learning, I can provide my opinion: First off START FROM SCRATCH! This way you learn how the software works. After completing your own file, you can thwen import another file and tweak it to your needs. I already have 2 complete setups for my MX 3000 and I NEVER programmed a remote in my life.
