I am having problems with my new macbook pro. I am running XP through bootcamp with a radioshack USB to serial adapter. When I attempt to UL/DL I get 'ERROR CODE: 100-07UU-0000 The com port setting is incorrect' - So I checked the com port and it said it was working correctly. I re-installed the driver - still the same problem!?!

I have been using Parallels instead of Bootcamp. My business partner used bootcamp, but had too many issues (it was the only thing that would work for a while, until the USB connection was fixed in Parallels). I can't speak as to the bootcamp thing, but in parallels you have to not only enable UBS devices but make sure that they are "activated" in the OS window (lower right) and sometimes you have to stop the program (URC) and restart it. or unassign the com port, then re-asign it, justa quark I've found that works sometimes.

OK - I'm now using XP on parallels. SAME problem!?! I dont think i have a com port assigned. how do I unassign/re-assign? Anything else I can try? thanks again for any and all help!

Try a different usb-serial adapater. Not all of them work with the URC remotes for some reason. I believe people have had good results with the Belkin's.

Ditto Slimfoot's suggestion, buy the Keyspan adapter. It is the best I've found for serial over USB in time sensitive applications and it almost always works.

Never a problem with the ioGear USB>Serial. I've used it for a bunch of different apps.

I use Belkin, it works too.

To un-assign/re-assign, in th elower right hand corner of the parallel window there are icons for hard drive, network and such, and one is the USB bus, make sure that there is a check mark (by clicking on it) next to the usb->serial adaptor. =Then check with properties/my computer and device mamnger to see whet com port windows has assigned it to. And some times in the URC software yoou need to change com settings, then change back. By the way I use the I-O gear adaptor with out any problems.

P.S. make sure that you are on the latest version of parallels ( anything after build 1970 should suffice).

Thanks for all your help... Everything is working perfectly! For the record: I am running OSX 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro w/ Parrallels (Build 3036). A RadioShack USB to Serial adapter. I just uninstalled & re-installed until my com port under Device Manager stopped showing an exclamation! After startup, found new hardware wizard setup usb -> serial, & I set the com port setting in the 850 editor to be identical - It Worked! Thanks again

I have been using USB- Serial adapters for my Windows notebook (no serial port) and there are times that the adapter moves off of COM1 for no apparent reason. This works in Parallels, too.

To switch to COM1

Open Control Panel

Open System

Choose Hardware tab

Choose Device Manager

Choose Ports (COM & LPT)

You should see your adapter - double click

Choose Port Settings

Click on Advanced

Change Com Port to 1

For what it is worth, your USB>Serial adapter will be a different COM port if you plug it into a different USB port, but every time you plug it into the same USB port it will be the same COM port. I picked one USB port I always use for my adapter so it is always the same COM port.
