Hello all,

I have narrowed down my choice of purchasing the URC MX-990 remote. As a part of my final research, I came to find out that it will not control any lighting, whatsoever. This was very disappointing.

My question to you all URC MX remote owners, has anyone figured a creative way to accomplish that ?

I have two subwoofers that I need to power up/down, on demand.

In the end, if I must go a secondary route, such as a smartthings hub, then I will but my obvious preference would be to use the URC MX-990 remote.

I welcome your feedback..

There are two common ways pipe IR to home automation that I have seen. I use a Kira module from Keen to convert IR to Eithernet (which has a plug in on Vera home automation).
You can also use the iTach Flex to convert IR to Wifi. I think this one is supported by Smart Hub, HomeSeer, not sure what others.

A little bit of spaghetti, but I atleast with the Kira/Vera combo, a speedy connection. I don't know of a way to have a MX remote talk directly to HomeAutomation without going to a Total Control setup.

Shallowearth - Thank you so much for your input. it is greatly appreciated. Your feedback is a great starting point for me to being my research. Glad to know there's hope to get the features I am interested in, albeit through an add-on device.

No worries about additional spaghetti, the back of my entertainment setup can feed a starving family for weeks :-)

You could use an Insteon system which has lamp dimmers, outletsand an IR to Insteon interface. Smarthome sells them.

Thank you for your feedback and the links, BobL.

Based on these links, I believe I have found another product that can meet my need: ISY994i

[Link: universal-devices.com]

This ISY product is insteon, IR, zware and wi-fi compatible.

I'm searching the home automation forums to read more about this magic box :-)
