Yea, I'm a URC user and have stuck with them for several years but the 990 doesn't look like anything special. Currently using MX-880's and some feedback on poor button quality is starting to get back. I have several iFixit kits with all the spuds and pullers you need, but wondering if opening it up and doing a nice clean will really make a difference. I'm so mad the menu/guide/info and exit buttons aren't larger. Lots of open space on that remote because of the small buttons. Really, is the build and button quality good on the 990? Worth to switch out some MX-880's to that model?

Do people still sell the 880?

the MX890 is a good alternative.  If it handled graphics the same way as the MX980/990, then it would be the perfect remote IMO.

It is a great alternative. When I finished the HT I switched from a 980 to the 890 and couldn't be happier. Great remote.

I kind of wish they'd backport a version of the TRC-820. It's the most "traditional" styled remote they've done in a long time (I've never been a fan of the sharp-edged ergonomics), and while I'm not 100% on the keypad feel, I do like the overall slim sculpted form and simplicity.

Evening all:
Have utilized nearly every remote in their arsenal over the last decade +, with lots of happy clients. Here in my home, I've got an MX-900 and (2) MX-980s working fine and even an old 950 series and 810 series in storage (have had to buy new batts of course for the 980s in my daily HT room). I was curious about your earlier (April?) comment that you thought the 890 series was better than the new 990 series. Could you explain why? I've NOT used or programmed the 890 nor the 990 series. Was going to update my 980 for my primary HT room because a few of the buttons on the (3 yr) old remote seems sluggish but its not an urgent need.

Was poking around this evening looking to see what 2016 comments on URC was out there.
Thanks.

The MX980 is our most popular remote and we sell it on most of our one-way jobs. With that said, the MX990 is awesome. It has a better feel in the hand then the MX980 and the same capabilities. Hopefully there will be no bugs that come up (a la the dimming screen on the MX780) but we are fans so far.

NOTE: If you have existing MX980 templates you will need to modify them. The templates/pages don't import cleanly and you need to tweak button placement. You'll see what I mean when you try it for the first time.
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

My clients love the MX-890. It's been solid in the field and is a great value. I've sold a lot of them and have not gotten one complaint. I program to be so easy that it's hard to have issues with them.

I hope this is helpful!

890 to me feels slow. Anyone else notice this? Press a button and takes what seems like a while to react. I've noticed on more than 4 different ones purchased at different times. Then780 is cheap and small, but it is super fast.

The 890 does lag a little with things like page flips. It is very noticeable when you are coming from another remote (used to something like the 780 for example). Once you spend time with it it is not really very noticeable. The remote is self is great, with a great feel in the hand and very powerful with its available programming.

CGAV,

I've never noticed any significant delay in button response. I know that some cable boxes themselves can lag when taking commands at times though. A reboot of the box will normally handle it. Which sources are you noticing this with?

Thanks!

In regards to the first post... now that I have an MX-990 in hand, it's a lot better than the photos make it look. More of a significant change from the MX-980 than I thought it'd be.
