Anyone who has DirecTV has probably hit the R arrow key by accident which brings up those TV Apps. I have no use for them and never use them, but hitting the R arrow key brings them up which technically changes the channel and causes me to lose the buffer of the channel I am watching.

So what I would like to do is eliminate the ability of the R Arrow key to work unless another key such as Menu or Guide has been pressed within say 30 seconds. And then be able to use the other arrow keys as a "keep alive" button.

This would work like this: Guide button pressed, awakes R Arrow key. Down arrow pressed, keeps R Arrow live. Number keys selecting channel are pressed, keeps R arrow alive, etc.

30 seconds after last key press R arrow become inactive.

Make sense.

Any suggestions on how to do this? I know I can set a state using variables, but can I change the status of that state with a timer? Or can a state be limited to a set period of time?

Thanks

Of course this would not be needed if DirecTV would let me turn them off. :(

You could also just change the right arrow key to a 1 second press and hold. Might get annoying in menus when you have to press for a second to do anything, but would eliminate accidental button presses.

I thought about that but it would be too much of a hassle when I was wanting to scroll R through the Guide.

The right way to do this and most reliable way unfortunately would be to do this with a two-way type scenario. What I would do is have the menu and guide (or whatever buttons) once pressed jump to a different page with a inactive or missing right command. It would trigger a macro to wait 30 seconds and jump back to the correct page with the R arrow operating normally. There are probably other ways to do this, but that is what comes to the top of my mind.

So press menu or guide ----> jump to second screen without the R arrow ---> event runs in the background to count X seconds and page jump back to the normal page with the R arrow command intact.

TCR, I like the thought, but just in reverse. I want the R inactive most of the time except when the Menu, Guide or Info button is pressed. So instead I would have the M, G or I button force a page jump to a page where the R is active. Then Exit, Select or Play would page jump back to the page where the R is inactive.

Thanks. I will give that a try.

Whoops. Sorry if I misread. Same idea, just reverse. Let me know how it goes. It's a workaround, not a solution, but it should accomplish what you need.

Correct. The solution would be for DirecTV to allow me to turn that crap OFF. Along with a couple of other annoying things they think everyone wants.
