Hi. I am a DIY'er with an MX-980. There is noticeable lag when using it. Not "seconds", but enough milliseconds that navigating TiVo menus (or using play/pause) is not the same fluid experience as with a TiVo remote.

I'm just using TiVo as an example: the lag is common to all devices, not just the TiVo.

Configuration is an MX-980, all commands output through an MRF-350.

Any tips on where to look would be appreciated. Or general rules of thumb for what to do and what to avoid?

Advice? Don't put pauses in front of all your commands?

In all honesty, you should not have to do anything special.

The MRF-350 is fairly dumb/simple. The most important thing there is not to use id 0.

Can you explain in a little more detail what you are seeing?

Change your repeats from the default 3 to 1. If this doesn't trigger the commands, try 2 repeats. Your commands will almost always be slower with an RF brain in place (as compared to using IR only) unless you change the repeats.
See our Youtube page for info about smart homes, great audio and more.

Well as far as I know I haven't put any pauses in front of anything.

Basically everything is sluggish. Just using channel up/down to navigate through TiVo menus, or hitting play or pause. Not sure if it's MRF issue. I'll try removing the repeats and see if that helps. ID-0 on the MRF is the front blaster, right? I don't think I'm using that for anything, certainly it would not be intentional, as that isn't even pointing towards anything useful: the MRF is mounted on the back of the cabinet with the front blaster pointed at the floor.

Any other guidance? Would punchthroughs matter? Or using macros? When I originally set this up I did several MX-980s for me and friends: we all had different equipment, but I set up the UI to be more activity based and ended up using lots of macros to abstract things out. Yes, I'm a software engineer, and it's quite possible that I overengineered the solution into something that doesn't work well. :-)

Channel 0 is a sniffer channel used to test for interference. Don't use it for normal operation. Blaster is designated within CCP. Mx980 is my go to. As far as the sluggishness, RF adds some time but you can get it pretty close by using clean codes, eliminating interference and experimenting with repeats.

It's my perception that adding sounds at the beginning of the macro does not make it fire any slower but I could be wrong. You could check that but it's not enough to bother me I put ticks on all hard buttons and ugly sounds on buttons that have no purpose in a given mode.

You might also want to make sure your aren't over saturating the IR port, you should try turning down the intensity of the IR emitter on your Tivo until you get a smooth snappy response. My Xfinity Cable Box is known to be sluggish if the IR is turned up too high.

Also set your Tivo device to RF only on the remote, so that your remote and the emitter are double hitting your box with same IR commands.
