So, I moved from the dead spot. What now?

It installed but my windows says "The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)"

Is there a solution?

I've been using an Aten UC232A USB-serial converter for years with my (yes!) MX-780. Their driver has given me no problems as I migrated from Win 7 to Win 8 and finally Win 10 (I skipped Vista ...).

Now I also have an MX-990 :)

After searching for some time on the web, this is the first solution that I've found that worked! I know this was over 4 years ago, but I can now sync my Universal Remote Control MX-880 with URC Complete Control. Thanks rgonyr!

OK, so, I am fully invested in this remote. Nothing today even comes close. Especially when it comes to IR universal remotes. The build quality and level of control with this remote is unparalleled. Therefore, I jumped through some major hoops to make it all work. After all these years, I'm simply not ready to move away from it.

The remote is like a tank so, if you're able to update it, it would last decades. I am going to give you the secret I use to be able to work with the remote on today's operating systems. The secret is... are you ready for this... everyone stand back... it is Oracle VirtualBox with a copy of Windows XP. Don't have a copy of XP? Do a google search. If you install Virtualbox and passthrough the USB connection to the virtual operating system, install the drivers from the universal remote folder in program files, it will work like an absolute champ. You can update it over and over again with no issues at all.

URC is a failing company. They are dying by the second because of their inability to create the prosumer level remotes that everyone is asking for. Sucks to be them really, but also, sucks to be us as alternative (Logitech) remotes barely last a year under normal usage and fetch hundreds of dollars while failing to meet even the simplest of universal remote features. Such as, being able to control timing, IR burst length, equipment power states etc... I have numerous MX-810 remotes and they are all wonderful.

I'm talking about a simple universal remote with awesome features for the average joe that is NOT wealthy. Yeah, that statement is pointed at you Control4 integrators. I care far too much about my money to hire an integrator for my system. Paying someone by the hour to learn your entire system and create macros to operate it is, well, a rich man's game. These guys want a minimum of $125-175+ an hour and, in the end, they still can't make my system work 100% without glitches or missing features.

Do yourself a favor, fire up an old laptop or download Virtualbox, install Windows XP, and install this remote into it. You will be able to run this for years. Even if/when URC goes down. They will for sure unless they get their act together.

I can no longer send updates my MX-810 using Win 10???

Yes, I know this is an old thread, and the MX-810 is ancient, and the software sucks, etc.. However, I have have several of the MX-810 remotes, and have been using them for years, and haven't found anything I like better.

My problem: on Win 10, when I try to send programming to the remote, it gets to about 80% and then says "Disconnected, please try again [EC2]". URC says this is because Flash has been removed from Win 10?

I tried running the software on an old laptop running XP, but no luck. I'll try again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, looking for newer Denon IR codes to send to my MX-810 (assuming I can get software working)...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I may be the last person struggling with old MX-810 remotes, but in case anyone else finds this, below is an update.

I loaded a windows XP virtual machine on my Win 10 laptop, and then loaded the URC Pro Wizard software on the XP virtual machine, and updated to the correct XP driver. The software wanted to do some updates, which seemed odd, but I clicked ok and the updates installed worked fine. Now I can load software to the remote and everything is working fine.

With Win 10 no longer supporting Flash, I think running on a XP virtual machine is the best option to continue running the software.

Additionally, I loaded the remote codes from the Pro Wizard software for the Denon avr-x7200w, and this seemed to give me all the buttons I needed.

All is good again... Hopefully new code files will continue to be available. I wish the MX-810 had a "learn" function (for new devices that may not be in the device list).

However, I still am puzzled why there isn't a modern consumer programmable (with devices and activities, not just macros) affordable remote on the market, that feels good in the hand, has good tactile button layout, ability to "learn" remote codes/signals, etc. I thought I would eventually switch over to Logitech Harmony, but I saw online where they are stopping support soon.

I know all the reasons that everyone hates the MX-810, but my family loves them and we have been using them for years (at least 10+ years).

I agree. The MX-810 was a good remote. It just needed to have software updated. Why can't someone make a decent remote? It's 2022 and most of the universal remotes just plain suck. The MX-810 is still way better than the Harmony.

I know this thread is old as dirt, but it just saved my butt !! My 3rd MX-810 bit the dust & I found a good deal on a used one, but W7 would not load the driver & this thread had the answer !! 4th 810 is up & running ........... long live the 810 !!!
