I thought this would be somewhat straight forward since I was abel to get it working on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1, but it's not. When I went to install the driver, it kept giving me an error stating "The Hash for the File is not Present in the Specified Catalog File".

After looking around, I found that I had to disable the Driver Signature Enforcement on Windows 10. To do this, I followed a page a found on iterrors.com that described how to do this(I cut and pasted how to disable the Driver checking part directly from the page that was to install an Apple network driver on Windows 10)...

Go to start and type ‘advanced’ and click ‘change advanced startup options’
At advanced start up, choose restart now.

On the blue boot screen you click:
Troubleshoot, Advanced options, Startup Settings -> restart.

When rebooted choose the 7th bullet “Disable driver signature enforcement”.

I installed the MX-810 driver, as I did for Windows 7 and 8.1...

After the reboot, go into Device Manager(after plugging in the MX-810), right click on the Unknown device and click "Update Driver".
Select "Browse My Computer" and drill to C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\MX-810 ProWizard\drivers\Windows Vista\64-bits directory.
It should show it is installing for the URC USB Sync FW1 device. When the warning appears choose "Install the driver anyway" and it should install.

Without disabling the Driver Signature Enforcement" the driver would not install for me. I have been working through all my devices, making sure they work on Windows 10 and this one was a hold up for me.

As an FYI, the is on the RTM version of Windows 10.

I can't believe anyone spent any amount of time with an MX810.

After getting his VCR setup, his Zune loaded with music, the 810 was next.

Why wouldn't he? It's the remote he has and wants to use. Just cause we are not fans of it doesn't mean everyone has to dump it to spend more money.

What the heck people? I'm sorry that I don't just throw out $300 remotes when they get a year or 2 old. It still works great.

I'm still using an MX-800 and an MX-850, so thanks Chuck for posting about installing the driver in Windows 10.

Those two remotes use serial communication so as long as you have drivers for your serial hardware or usb-serial adapter you should be fine.

I use a Keyspan USB-to-serial adapter (USA-19HS). Keyspan, which is now owned by Tripp Lite, has a driver compatible with Windows 10 posted here.

I (foolishly) upgraded my computer to Windows 10. Now, I need to change adapters, as the Prolific chipset in mine doesn't work, and in fact, is listed as non-compatible with Windows 10. Can anyone recommend a USB to RS232 adapter/chipset that is actually working properly on Windows 10/64? I too, am using MX-850 Editor, with several MX-850's. Also, what are the correct COM port settings (Bits/sec, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control) to use with the mx-850?

UPDATE: Just found and ordered Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter (Prolific PL2303HX Rev D Chipset) on Amazon. Driver for Rev D Chipset is certified by Microsoft for Win 10/64. Will wait and see if this works.

A new adapter, Plugable with Profilic HX RevD chipset, installed plug and play and worked out of the gate on my Win 10/64 os after a required restart. Four of my five MX-850's now communicate without issue with MX-850 Editor software. I suspect the problem with the fifth lies in a faulty remote. Note, not all Plugable adapters have this same chipset, so shop carefully.

So after having the same system/setup (Windows Media Center) and a couple of MX-810 remotes for years, I finally find myself needing to re-program it. We dumped media center and my HdHomeRun/Cable Card in favor of DirecTV. Just too many issue with Mediacom. We also picked up a Roku for netflix.

Having said that, I haven't used prowizard in YEARS. My old laptop is long gone but I do still have the prowizard install file. I've installed it on my Win 7 desktop but it fails to update when I start it up. Since it looks like you've played quite a bit with your MX-810, any tips to getting it to work with a Roku and DirecTV Genie receiver? I don't know if they are even still updating codes for these remotes...

In case anyone else finds this thread, running it as admin fixed the problem.

It should be part of the software install. If not, the software should offer to update itself and thus install the drivers for Vista(which work with Windows 7).

They are located in the Program Files (x86)\Universal Remote Control, Inc\MX-810 ProWizard\drivers directory.

I will say, in Windows 10, the connection seems a bit flakey. Sometimes it will update fine, other times it just stops midway and eventually fails. I just retry and it eventually works.

Yea, I didn't try that at the time, but I have since noticed a LOT of programs need to be run as administrator in Windows 10 for them to work right.

Well, I had to reset Windows 10 and running the install and program as admin still doesn't allow the initial driver instal. I still had to disable the driver signature enforcement to get it to install.
