Hey All,

First post, most of my answers I can find in the forum (thanks). But I have the following issue and I'm wondering if it has been seen before and if there is a possible fix.

I have a Yamaha HTR-6190 that I'm trying to control with an MX-980. Within CCP I have the RXV1800 selected (as there is no HTR6190). In my living room I have a 5.1 speaker Setup.

When I use the MX980 to power up all my devices the Yamaha always turns on Zone 2 and Zone 3. This essentially disables my surround back speakers. The only way I can seem to turn off zone 2 and zone 3 by the hard buttons on front of receiver (huge pain cause its downstairs in a closet). I was hoping that I could just add some programming in the macro section to turn these 2 zones off but I haven't been successful.

Can anybody help me out?

Thanks in advance for reviewing my post!

You need to find the discrete code for turning on zone 1 instead of the all zones on code you're currently using, unless you can turn that AVR on by just selecting the input source.

"POWER ON",

Take a look at RX-V1800 IR code set There is a discrete main zone on and main zone standby. Use those instead of power on and standby which are obviously controlling all zones.

It may be a matter of terminology, but if you have a 5.1 setup, you do not have surround back speakers. 5.1 has surround speakers and a 7.1 system has surround and surround back speakers. Zone 2 should not come into play unless you have a 7.1 system using the zone 2 amps. If you have surround back speakers, you need to configure a 7.1 configuration in the setup menu.

There are discrete power on and power off commands for zone 2 and zone 3. They should be in one of the Yamaha files. The codes are 7A BA and 7A BB for on/off for zone 2, and 7A ED and 7A EE for on/off for zone 3, ID1. . You can get the Yamaha Hex generator from the files section and convert them to hex if needed.

Main zone on/off are 7E 7E and 7E 7F

You can also use the Yamaha remote to send the appropriate codes and learn them with your remote. See page 113 in the 1800 manual.

Wow guys those are all awesome solutions thanks a ton!! (some are a bit over my head though, I'm just a dumb electrician by trade) I did do the "learn" process which solved the problem. And yes DTC sorry about my terminology ... They are the surround speakers ... basically my setup is 5.1 in living room, I have 2 more ceiling speakers in my kitchen that are connected to a Russound audio matrix that I use as my surround back speakers when I'm playing media that supports 7.1 ... (I have a spare zone so why not get 7.1 when I can)

cheers and thanks again!
