I've been using an MX-900 and MRF 350 in my main setup for maybe 4 years.
Programming I did myself.

I want to find a back-lite, pc programmable remote for my bedroom. Looking for a cost effective remote especially since it only needs to control the 3 devices I listed in the heading.

My wife is spoiled with the MX900 but I'm trying to find a more cost effective solution...

Open to all suggestions...

Thanks

Steve

Honestly, I find the MX-780 or lower to not be worth it. The 780 does not stay on all the time and it does not automatically wake up when you pick it up, like most of the newer models do. Your best bet is to stick with an MX-900, especially if you already have the editor software for it. You can also get an MX-850 as an alternative, but the price difference is about 10% lower.

On the other hand, the remotes like the MX-450 are not programmed by PC, which makes it less flexible than a PC-programmed remote.

If you have any questions, you're welcome to call me.

Why is a mx780 not "worth it" when he is perfectly happy with a 900? The examples you give on what makes a 780 undesirable all applies to the 900. The 780 is fine and would be the logical choice. Whether it is still above what he wants to spend is another thing altogether

When the remote goes to sleep and a client goes to pick it up, no matter how many times you say "don't press the Main button", they press the Main button and have to trigger the macro again, which makes for a less enjoyable experience, and if programmed poorly, can cause power sync issues.

The MX-900 is always on, which alleviates that entirely, and all of the remotes from MX-890 and above wake on pick up, going to the last screen they were on.

I prefer to give my clients a better experience that they don't need to think about, rather than giving them rules and limitations. The only time I will sell a 780 is if a client is absolutely unwilling/unable to spend the money.

They have to think about putting the remote in the dock.

I think all of the remotes in the CCP lineup, save for the 6000 and 5000 are excellent and excel when programmed correctly, the 780 included. YES, people press the main button for some reason to wake it up. Not everyone will learn to press any button BUT the main button. However, a family with kids that tend to never put the remote on the dock will find a remote that they have to press a activity button to re-enter the activity they were in is less of a problem than finding their remote dead due to a non charge. The 780 has its place. It's a great remote for the price. I sell them. I sell 890's. I sell 1200s. And I sell TC. Whoe gets what depends on the particular clients, their lifestyles, and their needs.
