URC hit a home run with this new controller. For the money, this offers incredible value and allows a high degree of reliable automation and control for a great price. Coupled with the new SONOS driver (as well as the Z-Wave controller and other drivers - not to mention new lighting lineup) this is going to be a real game changer and great for clients that are seeking an alternative to a lot of non-reliable product popping up these days.

I'll be honest. I'm not buying it. It's a CP1/2, which is a non-rack mountable piece. It has less serial ports, less sensor ports, and less IR ports compared to the MRX10, plus it has no 2.4 GHz antenna from what I hear. I believe only costs $100 less at retail price than the MRX10.

If these facts are true, I cannot see using it, ever. I would just bump up to the MRX10 and not offer the MRX8 as an option. It would have to be at least a couple of hundred dollars cheaper. I have not checked pricing to confirm what I heard, so I could be off.

If they are throwing in the iOS and Android control for free, that becomes a $500 difference.

They are running a promo for that supposedly. Also, most households will have one or the other, so in essence it is a $300 difference. If they keep this deal as a permanent deal, then it might be worthwhile.

Is it the same guts as the CP1? If so, I'll pass. We have that in a showroom with 3 zones of Sonos and a theater and nothing else. Crawls and goes offline constantly.

Supposed to be the same as MRX-10, but with less connectivity.

CCgen2 CP1 rebranded. They had to do something with the stock. They were giving the CCgen2 CP2's away with and android or apple reg for half of what the CP2's went for and the new Total Control training's.

FYI CCgen2 was their foray into (affordable) wifi control systems that could do more out the box than an 890 or 980 combined with an MRF350. More geared toward and entry into whole home control.

The installation program for TC and CCgen2 where the exact same program other than in CCgen2 you could only add that product line not TC. The program itself is exactly the same.

It is correct the unit, especially if it is a re-branded CP1 as many of us suspect, does not have built in RF capability.

I have a CCgen2 system on my test bed. Consisting of and RM-2 remote (TC1080), Android license, Iphail license and a CP1 processor for the past year. I've only had a WiFi issue once and I actually had it lock up on me once. My RM-2 has had more issues than the processor. My test bed consist of 7 streaming media players (every well known one the planet and my own custom re-branded chrome box running a custom version of XBMC-Kodi),Lutron lighting, 4 Sonos zones, Aventage 7.2 receiver (7.2 speaker set up with two different style subs), Wyrestorm HDMI switch, Sony display, three cable boxes, one Direct TV box, and a fios box. (I've been spending my spare time trying to wright two-way ip drivers for the URC systems first CCgen2 and now TC.)

If you haven't figured it out CCgen2 means Complete Control 2nd generation. While it saved loads of time on programming with the new software it brought it up to RTI pricing at the consumer level for and extensive single zone setup. So there was no way it could compete with the regular complete control pricing on their "normal" line of custom installer remotes. (we're fighting against the harmony crap...) However was a great step towards some affordable home control with maybe a two A/V zone setup, house audio/light Lutron lighting etc.

Ok enough for my first post... I've been around here for ages was on with another company I ran for years and just never bothered to re-register when I went out on my own some years back until now.

I set up an MRX-8 with an ipad and iTouch app at my own place. I tied in control with the following components:

- 3 Zone Sonos System
- Radio Ra2 Lighting System
- SNP Media Streamer
- Television
- Yamaha Receiver
- Blu-Ray Player
- Apple TV

I beat it up to death as best I could. Did not have one hiccup or any type of reliability issues. I do have a very good network in place and made special provisions for the Ra2 and Sonos system which tend to really storm a network, but I was extremely pleased at how well it worked and especially how quick I was able to put the system together.

That has been my experience and I wanted to share it.

Total Control Remotes:

You brought up a very good point about your network. Any IP/Network/WiFi based control system needs a very good network back bone. It makes a HUGE difference in reliability as well as usability. A standard All-in-One piece that the cable company provided should be used as a modem only. I don't want to go all crazy with network stuff here. Just wanted to reinforce the issue. Especially if you feel your unit is sluggish as someone else mentioned. I personally have never had a sluggish issue with these products.

It's the number one thing I get subbed out to do for other installers that haven't quite made it part of their forte yet. When I left my old company I would hand out business cards during lunch at training events for anyone that needed network/WiFi/programming help.

Generator did not include the steps to setup DMS music. It was almost the same software, but not exact.
