URC has successfully done the following:
1) Hired NetEnforcers to protect their copyrighted materials
2) Set forth a new policy to regain channel control
If this were my company:
1) I would fire NetEnforcers for completely FAILING to remove software pirates from selling on eBay (and other places)
2) Speak with my lawyer to determine a way to solve the problem effectively
3) Place serial numbers in more STRATEGIC locations than a sticker in the battery compartment - possibly stamping the PCB with a S/N
4) RAISE CONSUMER AWARENESS AND SUPPORT DEALERS
Since the new policy, it appears things have only gotten worse. Some Authorized Dealers have been reduced to making 5% on a $400 remote in order to compete with unauthorized sellers. Non-distributor accounts are URC's bread and butter, since they make more money per unit from those accounts...they could be making so much more by helping direct dealers increase their volume and adding more of them.
Thank you,
Damon DG
