When I was made to sign a form by my distributor to only buy from them and not sell the products from URC on Ebay, I was very disturbed to find out that the MSC-400, MX-3000, MX-900 and others are currently being auctioned from distributors online. Why isn't URC a member of Ebay to keep them from selling their products. If they do not want their remotes being sold on ebay, why are they not reporting them on ebay?

I even saw one auction selling an MX-900 with a copy of the software. You could tell it was a copy becuause the CD was a generic cd-rom with writing on it stating what kind of software was burnt on it.

What must be done?

BNC

Why this is unconsciable. I am shocked, SHOCKED at this turn of events.

You can bet your bottom dollar someone at URC will be on this first thing tomorrow morning. They will put an end to this and fast.

OMG, what will URC do this time, disable everyones download to remote button and pull the (now disabled) software again!

URC is so great at making policies.

A member here for 4 years and you are seriously naive to this topic? I read the title and expected to see a thread pages and pages long that had been dredged up from the past.

Have you been on vacation for a few years?

I would hate to count the number of threads and posts on this subject.

Yup, get over it and move on with life. I bet I can acquire anything I wanted on ebay despite efforts by manufacturers, ebay and even the govt. to control it. Do you really need to worry about losing sales to ebay sellers from penny-pinching consumers? A properly programmed remote is a value-added component that your true clients will appreciate; it's up to you to create this value.

Or...up to the DIY'er to create the value they desire.

URC has successfully done the following:

1) Hired NetEnforcers to protect their copyrighted materials

2) Set forth a new policy to regain channel control

If this were my company:

1) I would fire NetEnforcers for completely FAILING to remove software pirates from selling on eBay (and other places)

2) Speak with my lawyer to determine a way to solve the problem effectively

3) Place serial numbers in more STRATEGIC locations than a sticker in the battery compartment - possibly stamping the PCB with a S/N

4) RAISE CONSUMER AWARENESS AND SUPPORT DEALERS

Since the new policy, it appears things have only gotten worse. Some Authorized Dealers have been reduced to making 5% on a $400 remote in order to compete with unauthorized sellers. Non-distributor accounts are URC's bread and butter, since they make more money per unit from those accounts...they could be making so much more by helping direct dealers increase their volume and adding more of them.

Thank you,
Damon DG

damon, quite possibly the most constructive post on this topic. congrats.

Unfortunately, I doubt your efforts will be effective.

You are a calm head in the middle of the fire. I salute you.
