I have been trying to drive an IR emitter out of the back port of the KP-4000 for a couple weeks now with now luck. The manual states that it can be done, I'm just not getting any signal out of the emitter. I have the two leads connected to the DATA and GND ports on the back. I've tried multiple emitters. I tested them after I tried using them with this and they still work with another setup. I've tried swapping the leads like the manual suggests. I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Has anyone had any trouble with this in the past? I understand that a base station it the easiest way to go about this, but that would require a new cable run. There is existing cable that can be used if I can get the IR to work correctly.

Is the polarity of your leads correct? The IR emitter is a diode which only passes current in one direction...

Yes, I have made sure that I've got the polarity correct.

I was able to take the back plate off and measured the resistance of the pull-up resistor that would be in series with the IR out. It measured in at 600M ohms, while the number on it said it was a 100 ohm resistor. Could this be what is causing my problems? What could have caused that resistor to go bad?

Are you using a URC emitter or other emitter which lights up when a signal is sent through it? Try that. Alternately, you can use a digital camera to look at the emitter and see if it is sending IR when a button is pressed on the KP.

I hope this is useful.

I've tried that as well. I am not seeing any activity from the emitter when hooked up to the KP-4000, but I know they work because I tried them with another setup before and after trying on the KP-4000.

Ok. Silly question...if you check the RF settings in the program, is it set to IR? I know it seems obvious, but having done tech support for URC, it's important to look at every possibility, just to cover your bases.

Let me know.

I recently ran 6 emitters off a KP4000. It's just an in-wall IR remote at that point.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I have made sure that they are set to IR in the programming.

I decided to open it up and try to see any blown parts inside. I found the pullup resistor for the IR output, which was labeld 101. Looking it up, this should mean 100 ohms. Upon measuring it with a multimeter, it read 100,000 ohms. Could this be my problem? a Faulty resistor?

If nothing is working, you might want to contact URC directly. As long as it's under warranty, they should be able to replace it fairly quickly. You can call them at 914-835-4484.
