I haven't bought a new remote in a while, so I'm not up to speed on the latest models. I love my MX-980. I've been using it for years, and it has been a real workhorse. It is my understanding that this remote is no longer being manufactured. What model replaced it? If I purchase one, will I have to start over from scratch with the programming, or can I dump my current MX-980 configuration into the new remote?

MX980 is still current. Check the URC Control Room for the latest revisions.

Thanks! I don't know why I thought it had been discontinued. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the URC Control Room. I'm just a lowly DIYer ... :)

I think I'll pick up another MX-980 on eBay. I see new ones going for very reasonable prices these days.

if you want to step into a newer model that has similar capabilities, take a look at the mx890.  you will have to reprogram from scratch, but it uses the same resolution as the mx980.  so if you have any custom graphics, they will fit perfectly on the 890.

the 890 has the 4 color buttons on the remote and IMO fits in your hand nicer.

I second the MX-890. It doesn't have as large a screen as the MX-980, but it has better graphics and a better hard button selection. It's my go to remote these days.
