So I currently have a mx 80 and mx890 with a msc-400 and re extender. Love the look and feel of the 890 but unfortunately the 890 took a bad spill. I was thinking of putting the 980 in the bedroom and getting the 1200. Is this truly an upgrade though? I know the styling is better for me but wonder how much better it is overall. Another question is can the 1200 have an activities page and a devices page like the 980?

Another thing I really liked about the 890 was the usb sync rather than active sync with the 980. I've had to keep an old win xp laptop around just to sync the 980. I never got it to work with my win 8 64 bit pc's.

So plan A for me would be to upgrade the main remote to the 1200 and relegate the 980 to the bedroom. Plan B would be to get something cheaper like the 780 for the bedroom.

Your thoughts please...

Bite the bullet and get the MX-1200.

I have had one as my main remote for 3 yrs. and love it.
Great layout and easy to customize. Activities and devices pages can be programmed.

Actually, you have 3 customizable menu buttons on the 1200 so you can do Activities, Devices and Favorites or something else.

USB sync vs. active sync? Can someone please explain? Is Active Sync ever even used anymore? I thought Windows Mobile Device Center had superseded Active Sync years ago.

Perhaps this has to do with the remote being used? Maybe some very old ones still use Active Sync? I've had Windows Mobile Device Center installed on pretty much every computer I've owned over most of the last decade. I needed it for my now gone MX-3000. When I got an MX-1200, everything just worked immediately. I assumed I still needed Windows Mobile Device Center. Did I? What about for an MSC-400? Most, if not all, of URC's manuals still seem to refer to installing Active Sync rather than Windows Mobile Device Center.

The brain of a MX980 is essentially a Compaq Ipaq PDA, that's why you need it.

You can install WDC from CCP now as there's a button next to the KNX, SNP-1 setup and Luton XML features.

Yes, I've always assumed I need Windows Mobile Device Center. When the earlier posts refer to "USB sync", do they really mean "Windows Mobile Device Center" or is there something else with which I'm not familiar?

The newer ones don't need mdc and are simple usb sync. No driver issues and work fine on win 8.

goldenzrule,

You can manipulate the MX-1200 sub directories in CCP to include as much as or as little as you like. I am working on a new design right now.

I was merely referring to the fact that the 1200 has 3 customizable hard buttons. I know you can do more than the categories I listed. I was just using them as an example of what you can do

No worries. The Roku template you listed looks great (as does all of your work)
