Hello Everyone,

i am planning to buy a new home and looking for suggestions for In-wall wiring. The idea is to start simple and upgrade for the next 10 years as budget permits.

1) what type of wiring to be done? (ir, ethernet, speaker, blinds etc.). What kind of cable?
2) How many of the above wires per room? (e.g: 3 ethernet, 2 speaker wire, 2 ir control)

What is my simple?
control one room with tv and other devices, control blinds.

What is my future dream?
control with iPad:
a) cameras inside/outside house
b) every room has speakers
c) every room has dimmer and control lights
d) every room has touch screen panel
e) may be blinds in some rooms

I want the wiring before the walls are done

appreciate if someone can give the details so i can put a thought around this and also share the ideas with the AV guy who will come next week.

If the AV guy who's coming next week doesn't know what to do, find someone else. If you've hired the right guy, he'll have answers to all your questions. Haven't you asked him about this already?

First, you have to decide where you want the wires run. For example, you wouldn't run speaker wire without knowing where your speakers are going to be located.

I see a lot of people running PVC pipe chases for future wiring. I think that's a good idea. You just have to decide where you want the chases.

I just reconfigured the home theater in my living room and ran speaker wire for five speakers, ethernet cable, coax for cable TV, FM antenna, and TV antenna, HDMI cable, and optical audio cable. Some of the wires come down from the attic to the TV, some from the attic to the entertainment center (which is located below the TV), and some from the entertainment center to the TV. All are hidden in the walls.
