I followed instructions from the thread [Link: remotecentral.com] and laboriously copied all the hex files into a Pronto ccf file.

I did this because attempting to copy, paste the hex file into the Hex editor window from the 850 Universal browser gave the red circle with a diagonal bar when I tried to drag it, indicating, according to the above thread, the code was not a learned one.

Constructing the Pronto file (left open BTW) was supposed to overcome that BUT I'm getting exactly the same non result because of the red circle with bar across it.

Any suggestion what I'm doing wrong would be gratefully received!

John

MORE INFO:

Specifically I'm trying to import the hex files for a Vu+Solo referred to in the second post here [Link: l5remote.com]

Copying and pasting these hex files into the hex editor window is no good because they will not drag into the Universal browser. But putting all those codes into a Pronto file first was no better!

Possibly your issue: you do not drag from the hex editor to the universal browser. You drag from the hex editor directly onto a remote button, and it is assigned to that button as normal learned data.

I had no problem using the hex codes from that Excel file with MX-850 Editor's Hex Editor drop box.

Well I'm baffled.

As soon as I put the left mouse botton on the "drag" button "Hex Ed" & "Hex Data" is shown + read circle with a red diagonal slash comes up indication that the drag is not allowed - and that seems to be the case. I've tried dragging the highlighted code set into both the Universal Browser and then direct onto the button on the main page but nothing happens. Something is preventing it. Could it be the MXEditor is not up to date? Yet I'm told it has been updated!! And BTW, I did experiment with another hex file from elsewhere and exactly the same thing happened.

I've tried various learning methods and none work so I do need to get those hex files in. I've researched the net and that set of files is the correct one.

I can also drag hex codes from the spreadsheet into the MX Editor with no problem. Have you rebooted the computer and retried? May want to try removing and reinstalling the editor. I have not seen that issue before.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I tried a "repair" but no joy.

About to retire now but tomorrow I might attempt to delete the MX850 editor and do a complete re installation but I'm not optimistic!

Not sure I completely understand the description in the thread [Link: remotecentral.com] but it does refer to all this.

Try highlighting the key you wish the hex code to be drag to, first.

Tried highlighting, tried re-installation of MXeditor after running a couple of registry cleaner programs, .... - same result, that red diagonal in the circle indicating I'm not allowed to use hex editor. Most frustrating.

Looks like there is some other program causing a conflict so next move is to attempt the task on a notebook with less junk on it.

Yes I'm DUMB!!!

The red circle with diagonal bar was a red herring. The obvious missing step after the drag was "SAVE". Stupid me was expecting to see an "L" for learned immediately following the drag.

Apologies for wasting people's time. If it is any consolation it wasted hours of mine - serve me right!

IRONIC END TWIST: All the codes loaded BUT they are not the correct ones after all. Reason is the VU+ I have is a Chinese clone and it appears they did not use the genuine VU+ codes.

At least I now know how to install the codes, once I've found them that is!

Did you get it working? I looked at that xls file, and whoever formatted it did an absolutely terrible job. When trying to copy/paste the hex, I ran into many errors.

I found if you select the field and highlight from within it, the full code would copy/paste. If you selected the field, then tried to highlight copy/paste from the little bar up top (it's the single line of text up top that looks kind of like the URL space in a web browser. I don't know what excel calls it), the full code would not copy/paste. I checked the copy/paste in IRScrutinizer to verify this.

I did not run into that problem. I just clicked in the middle of the batch of codes, copy, then paste and that seemed to work OK. But, as mentioned above, the final irony is that my Chinese clone did not use those codes at all!!

I've been in touch with the manufacturer and they have promised to get back to me.

Life IS fun sometimes!

What are the keystrokes to find the Hex Editor drop box? I just opened my MX-850 Editor; did an update; went looking for anything at all about Hex, and could not find it.

I'm really searching for a way to get hex into an MX-980 because I couldn't get it to learn and the box did not populate in the Universal Browser after I created a ccf of the commands I needed. That was after not being able to get Learn to work.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Click universal browser. It's the tiny icon left of the satellite dish (live update) icon. In the UB pop up window, click hex. Copy, paste, drag, rename.

Cheers.

Yeah, UI design error. Should never have major functions that aren't available from a menu.
