I am a proponent of not promising something I cannot deliver, so even though I would like to help a client, I would rather tell him it can't be done if it won't be reliable.

He has an old MX 850 remote, but would consider upgrading if we could turn off his amp and TV at a certain time.

I have not tried to do this for a client. Would an MX 880 or 980 do this reliably?

Is it a simple button sleep timer macro that gets set for 60 minutes or 90 minutes, or can the client punch in the length of time?

Appreciate your insight.

You can either do a sleep timer. Press the sleep timer button and it will toggle between certain set time amounts. I forget how long. I think 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute...

If he just want to have the system shut off at the same time each day, say midnight, you could use the event timer and just put an off macro in the event timer.

The 980 has a sleep timer built in. I use it all the time.

Can an 880 do this, or only the 980?

Yes it can. I'm pretty sure any CCP remote can utilize the sleep timer feature.
