I'm trying to figure out the capabilities of the MX-450 without having to actually buy one first. Specifically, I can't tell the difference between what they call a device and an activity. If they are in fact the same, 18 may not be enough. I must setup a multi-room config with shared inputs. So I'm assuming the activities will have to be replicated for each room with the specific codes changed to do things like change the matrix switcher to the specific room and input on activation of the activity.

I know you think I should probably go with a PRO remote but I'm a technical end user and I don't want to mess with something for which I would have no support. That can quickly lead to a bad ending.

I know the manual is built in. It's really too bad that they don't also have it at least dumped to a PDF. Can anyone point me to some kind of dump (possibly a video) of the manual text that shows the content of that built-in manual? It would be much appreciated.

Devices and activities are the same as nouns and verbs.

Just based on your description, no matter how technical you think you are you can't use that remote for what you want to do. If there is a single discrete code you require that's not in that remote's library you're hosed.

MX450 and multiroom don't go together.

I'm familiar with what what the difference between a device and an activity it's just not clear to me how activities are implemented on this device. It looks like they are somehow being crammed into what they are calling a device. That's why I need the documentation.

I'm currently doing it all on a Harmony. Can't you learn the code from another system? Is this remote more difficult to multi-room than the Harmony? And while I'm technical I'm not a professional. I don't do it every day but I can usually pick it up if the info is out there.

call around to URC dealers and find one that will sell you a remote from the CCP lineup and provide the software. (they are allowed to do this)

you will have a much better time programming a multizone system with a PC programmable remote.

Actually, the Harmony is doing everything that I need for it to do. It's just that the range on the RF is on the fringe for this application. The RF on the URC is the reason for the change.

The MX450 will quickly have you tearing your hair out. It programs on the remote itself, not via software. It's a time consuming, pain in the butt feat on a moderately large system. With a matrix switcher in the mix, you will be cursing it quickly. As Duct Tape said, you are much better off with a PC programmable remote. If you can find a local dealer to help you out, it would be best. Just remember that it is up to the dealer whether they will supply the software, so they do not have to. Ask nice and be polite and I bet you'll find someone local willing to help. Good luck.

Echo all the other comments on the 450. Get an 880 minimum. End of story. Not being able to easily move buttons around on a multi room setup will be an incredibly frustrating experience.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
